My dd is 6 at the end of the month and was wondering whether to get one of the roald dahl story cds such as george and marvellous medicine or the crocodile one? Does anyone have a 6 yr old who listens to them or is she a bit young yet?
She has some short story tapes such as cinderella or snow white etc which she enjoys but the roald dahl ones are much longer and was unsure as to the attention span?
any advice and experience gratefully received

Can't answer your specific question, but there are some old-fashioned stories etc. on a site I posted about today here .

My DS1 is 4 and loves those stories! We've got a compilations with Fantastic Mr Fox, James and Giant peach etc and their fave which is The Giraffe and the Pelly and me.
It's a Ouffin audio book. we got it in Waterstones but you could probably get it on Amazon

We have borrowed Giraffe, P&Me from Library, and also have Dahl reading C.&Choc factory CD and my just 5 yr old (daughter) loves it, will sit through all of it, so I think that you should be fine.

My dd is 6 and is a RD nut! We bought her a really nice set of 4 story cds from Woolies for xmas which is Charlie and CF, Enormous Croc, James and Giant Peach and Magic Finger. Think it was £15 -£20 but is actually read by the great Roald himself which is lovely! DS is just 4 and he loves them too!

Your DD will be able to follow them fairly easily I'm sure. My DS is 3 and listens to fairly lengthy stories (Babar, The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark, for example) and recalls them vividly. DD2 listened to the RD ones before she was 5 as she has an older sister and they share a room. Give them ago - if she doesn't get on with them you could bring them out at a later date.
