all the time..
after the horror of the other thread, I think it would be good for the sn community on mn to tell their stories, when they have been harassed/assaulted/ and abused by the nt world.
night help to put a couple of minor incidents that someone in the nt world has had to put up with for a very short space of time.

so I will start ....
we were subjected ot haye crime for 5 years....why because my ds fell out with them when they called my dd a spaz.
we can't go out without the staring...small children blocking out way in the shop, whilst mummy/daddy does nothing, just so their child can stare at dd, who is shock horror in a wheelchair.
my son was bullied at school by nt kids who took delight in calling dd a spaz.

mie are minor compared with most.

I was hit with a stick once and told I had the devil in me when I was 18 and having a seizure. My friends still laugh about it now.

I have struggled for a long time to get understanding where my son is concerned. He is aspergers and has just been assessed as having paranoid schizoprehenia and is in a medium secure mental hospital. He is just 15. Until very recently my mum would tell everyone I wasn't strict enough with him and that's why he was 'difficult'. It was only since I have actively involved her in everything she fully gets it. Unfortunately its too late to have the damning ......'grandparents think mother struggles to discipline' removed from his CPA.

devientenigma · 17/04/2012 13:03

see Peachy we need the old crowd back on the sn boards, they have been took over and there is no support or empathy any more!!

dottyspotty2 · 17/04/2012 13:04

SN boards certainly have changed

Agincourt · 17/04/2012 13:07

My DD when she was younger was called a spazz, spastic, retard because she had speech problems.

Women in particular seemed to be very anxious to point out to me that she was the shortest in her year.

She has OCD and whilst telling a friend of mine, in detail, she said "OH I like to line my cans up, I must have it too!" DDs manifests it way in having the urge to slit her wrists.

It's a good job she has a loud mouth for a mum Wink.

On a brighter note I work in an SN school and we often have older children in to do work experience/course/sport type stuff. To a one the have all been absolutely wonderful with the children. They are treated by them just as they would treat their mates Smile.

When DD2 was younger she started chatting to a girl in a wheelchair. SHe asked where her cast was. The girl was a bit older and explained to DD that she could never walk. I was watching out of the corner of my eye and saw DD climb onto her lap for a ride up the aisle in Asda!

Not my family but this thread has made me think of something that happened the first week of the Easter holidays. We were in Charlestown in Cornwall for the week with my in laws. On the Thursday I went out for lunch with my MIL and got chatting to a lovely family in the restaurant. They had two boys, one in a wheelchair about 7 or 8 and one around 9. They also had an older girl. When we arrived the little one grabbed my hand as we passed his seat and started babbling to me. His mum 'translated' what he was saying and then the older boy started telling me how his little brother was disabled and all about the museum about shipwrecks they'd just visited, spoke to them for a few minutes and when we sat down we talked about what a lovely family they were.

A while later a group came in, four adults and four youngish children. The adults sat the children at one table and they sat at another with a screen between them, (relevant in the hope they didn't see their children's appalling behaviour). The children were awful, staring at the little boy in the chair, making very rude comments about all three children. The little boy with them was so intent on staring that he actually tipped his chair and fell. I was so cross for the family, I heard the mother tell her older two just to ignore the rude children but it obviously upset them very much :(

I met the family in the car park later and spoke to the mum about it. She said they get the same reaction most places they go. I do think a lot of people don't teach their children how to behave. In actual fact the four younger children were not terribly well behaved at all but the parents seemed oblivious. I really wish I had had the courage to challenge the adults.

i'm saddened to read posts about the SN boards being unsupportive Sad

i've gained a lot of support and knowledge form the wonderful posters there, and have struck up real (although online) friendships with a couple.

i'm not able to share knowledge as i don't have that much, but offer Brew and [hugs] whenever i can

devientenigma · 17/04/2012 13:10

zzzzz, it hasn't worked for me for a long time, I'll get the odd snippet but a lot goes unanswered.

devientenigma · 17/04/2012 13:12

didn't mean to hit enter. The board used to be so much better. It feels uncomfortable there, too clicky and a bit abrupt at times, now DS has put me off my train of thought!!

devientenigma · 17/04/2012 13:13

thanks for the support dotty

devientenigma · 17/04/2012 13:14

and Agin there's another 2 feeling like me

2old2beamum · 17/04/2012 13:14

cocolepew your Asda moment was lovely. Wipes tear, your daughter sounds brilliant. You have done well Smile

UnChartered · 17/04/2012 13:15

have you NCed, devient?

i'm looking for your threads to see if i can help at all, but can't find any

warmandwooly · 17/04/2012 13:16

I am only at the end of page one but the stories here sicken me that your children and you have had to put up with the attitudes and behaviour of some people.

Its hearbreaking that we live in 2012 and these attitudes and behaviour persist.

Voidka · 17/04/2012 13:16

For me the really gut wrenching thing is the knowledge that DS will probably never live independently :(

claw4 · 17/04/2012 13:17

Ive had a bit of a break from MN until recently, has the sn section really changed?

I always found it to be extremely helpful and had lots of support, some of the offers i received for help ie helping to prepare tribunal papers, people letting me read their reports etc, etc some really did/do bend over backwards.

I also try to be as helpful in return wherever possible.

dottyspotty2 · 17/04/2012 13:17

devientenigma no problem I got lots of support when going through the fight to get DX for and the hell DS put me through last year have namechanged since then

Peachy · 17/04/2012 13:18

Lancelottie- email your local NAS and see if they are planning to set soemthing up. We also have a (slightly less known I am sure!) Uni and it triggers a lot of things.

Peachy · 17/04/2012 13:19

Devient hugs

I think you should share some of your sories- especially about education- they are eye opening.

devientenigma · 17/04/2012 13:20

I have tried not to post for about 2 year but there is the odd thread and comment, comments are ignored or shouted down and my threads don't take off. I post about DS and his respite attacking spree and about being fed up........................meaning the bottom of a cliff looks good for DS and I. Strangely enough zzzzz commented on that thread and it made me smile.

Agincourt · 17/04/2012 13:20

I just guessed that mine had gone unanswered because my daughter is severely disabled and I imagine I am in a minority even on the SN board and I am not regular (I tend to pop on and off the board as I have to work and care) Holidays i am stuck indoors so tend to post more Blush

UnChartered · 17/04/2012 13:21

come on back, we can't support you if you're not there hugs

Peachy · 17/04/2012 13:21

I don't come on here much any more- partly as the boys are older but I should, ds2 and ds4 are in the system and so am I, for AS, since this morning anyway.

Devient, I will pledge to come ehre more often if it can help people.

dottyspotty2 · 17/04/2012 13:22

I think you should post might open some eyes to how bloody hard you have it day in day out.
