DD has one of these beds - it just sounds like a freak accident to me but is it worth risking keeping it?

CD, im sat here bawling over that little girl, its so very, very tragic, if it were me, i would bin the bed, seriously, its not worth the worry it will prob cause you, get a diff one and get peace of mind.
i remember when dd1 was little we got a slide from early learning centre and 2 years later a child died after getting her head stuck in the bar the connected the slide to the steps, elc immediately brought out a free kit to cover the rail, but we couldnt get it to fit on, so we binned the slide, even know dd had never put her head near the rail, it wasnt worth the risk, elc withdrew the slide.

yes I just got home and cried when I looked at the bed just imagining what that poor poor mother and father must have gone through

It is v tight against the wall and she could no way have an accident in this way as her feet wouldn't go down the back, I guess they must have had it away from the wall a bit.

you can't have a bed that makes you cry whenever you look at it

add it to the huge pile at the Sheen tip

CountessDracula · 09/02/2006 19:18

why dont you leave it until next week to make a decision?

kbaby · 09/02/2006 21:16

The story is horrible and if I would have one it would be in the bin in a second.
Its not worth it when you know its caused 1 death. Admitidly it was a freak accident but better safe than sorry.

Makes me think about the type of bed I was going to get DD, I wont be getting a metal rail one now.

I know it might not help, but I just thought I'd let you know that there was more involved than just the bed.

IKEA also withdrew the Murmel bed canopy as this was also involved in the accident. How I don't know, but I assume it was a combination of a number of different factors that led to this horrible thing occurring. The Police and Health and Safety/Trading Standards people have ruled out the bed being the 'cause' iyswim. I hope this makes you feel a bit more at ease CD, but I can understand why you would want to get rid of it, it's going to be the first thing you think of when you look at it for a long time

veuveclicquot · 16/02/2006 08:48
