Hi, I need to get a present for a very activr 6 year boy whos only come into the family in the last 8 months(through adoption) that isnt hugely expensive but cool.
As far as I know he loves soccer, lego(but no idea what he already has) and stuff like Spiderman

We've just been told its his birthday party on Saturday and can't turn up empty handed!
Help!

We got a rocket launcher from the Early Learning Centre similar to these for a five year old boy. You stamp on it and it also has a bubble function (like those wands & bubbles - the air passing through the holes in the rocket creates bubbles from the mixture). He loves it and it was about £6 in the sale.

What's your budget Huffpot? I imagine what you give this time sets the benchmark for future gifts so you need to be realistic.

Would he like:

a scooter?
one of the Lego board games?
roller skates
a basket ball net (you get swingball style ones)?
a kite?
a Spiderman dressing up outfit?
a water pistol (you might never be forgiven)

Here it is. At first, the reviews are correct, he found it hard to propel but he is also very active and by the end of the afternoon got it to reach the ceiling (also helped by his Dad doing some mega jumps in the garden, which gave him something to aim for Grin).

Swingball?

onanightlikethis · 05/04/2012 20:18

boomerang, swing ball, rugby ball, football, jump rockets, water bombs / water blaster, scooter accessories, cricket set, footy net, or vouchers for sports soccer

SPACEHOPPER!!! or a pogo stick?

A football - one of the small size skills balls (honest you can never have too many of these they are always getting punctured) or Match Attax cards/ album starter set/ football kit/ football goal. Have a soccer mad son and he would have loved any of these things when 6.

Football nets if he has a garden?
Goalie gloves?

All of these are great ideas. I'd add into the mix something small like a football, plus a gift card for ToysRUs (or whatever the nearest decent toy shop is) so he can choose something else for himself too (kids of this age really like being grown up and getting to spend money themselves, and adopted children in particular might not have had this opportunity before).

Absolutely brilliant ideas - thank you all so much!

Scooters are the big, big thing this year, as far as I can see. Argos have some good and pretty cheap ones, and they also do a skateboard set with helmet etc that my son loved at 8.
I would recommend a scooter!
