Do you have a dolls house and does it get played with?

It's my dd's 3rd birthday next week and I bought her a doll house with furntiure etc. A friend has poured cold water on the idea, however by saying she won't play with it.

My older dds had a doll house which they both played with quite a lot when they were around 4 and 2 but when my ex H and I split he gave that doll house away to a friend.

So trying to canvass opinion really...

I had a Sindy one that I loved when I was about 5.

I loved it because I turned it into a multi story stables with hay and everything.

My mum was a bit Hmm but it kept me quiet for hours

DD is 10 she has played with her dolls house since little and still loves it.

Miserable friend! My DD hasn't got one yet. Once she has, I'll never be able to tear her away!

PuppyMonkey · 05/04/2012 09:13

DD has had one since she was three and plays on and off with it. We keep it in her bedroom, where it looks quite nice whether she plays with it or not.

Bonsoir · 05/04/2012 09:15

DD (7) plays with her dolls house a lot.

fuzzywuzzy · 05/04/2012 09:17

My girls do & it is played with & much loved they're now 7 & 9 & still play with it.

I think your children will absolutely love it.

Thanks for replies. Dd2 (now 8) can't wait for dd3's birthday to come so that she can play with it!

I suppose maybe at 3 she is a little too young to get the full benefit of it but I felt it was something she could grow into.

My daughter has got this one

dolls house.

It fits her barbies and the like. At 5, she has outgrown the wooden dolls style houses, and now uses this. It is used to house Barbie / polly pocket / sylvanian families etc...

It gets played the most when DD has friends come round as they all want to play with it.

She's had it a couple of years now and I'd say its been good value for money.

Yes, my parents bought it and it is hideously, horribly, gender-stereotypically pink.

DD2 (22mths) takes the furniture in and out, but otherwise it pretty much gets ignored. Mind you, we don't really have 'dolls' for it, occasionally the playmobil people/ happy land pirates go in there.

Other people's DCs do seem to quite like it though. Just not ours.

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 07/04/2012 15:45

Mine played with theirs a lot at around 4/5 years old.
They used Polly Pockets in it a lot.

namechangernumber9 · 07/04/2012 15:52

I got something similar to the linked one for DD (2.6), for christmas, but on advice I havent given it to her.

I think she is too young for it.

She does however adore her brothers playmobil so much I am thinking of buying some for her.

CalicoCathy · 07/04/2012 15:55

DD (4) plays with hers a lot, with her playmobil and sylvanian figures. She's had it since Christmas, she goes through phases of playing with it every day, then moves onto something else, then comes back to it.

At the moment we are in a major dolls house phase, we even made some new furniture for it yesterday out of card and offcuts of material and bathroom sponges etc (I couldn't afford to buy her enough furniture for it for Christmas, so some of the rooms have been a bit bare before.)

PastGrace · 07/04/2012 16:06

I'm 22 and my parents still have the dolls' house my sister and I shared when we were small. Whenever they have children round the first thing they do is ask if they can play with the dolls' house. I think it's a great present.

perceptionreality · 07/04/2012 22:30

I think there are some lovely doll houses available now - there is far more choice than even 7 years ago.

claudedebussy · 07/04/2012 22:32

yes, no. it is in the attic now and none of my kids ask for it.

startail · 07/04/2012 22:34

Yes, but only with Playmobil people and mostly Playmobil furniture.

The wooden people didn't appeal.

perceptionreality · 07/04/2012 22:34

MrsLetchlady - I do like the dolls house your dd has - it's quite hard to find ones that Barbie can go in these days.

I bought the painted ELC one - it looks similar to the Le Toy Van ones and the furniture is sturdy.

my dd got one for xmas age 6, it is huge, lol a homemade one. we have sylvanian furniture in it, but she has never put dolls in it. Nor sylvanians she puts her cats in it, or more recently her Pokemon collection.

It's been a hotel, a disco, a bar (oops!) more than a home.

perceptionreality · 07/04/2012 22:43

Ah, yes I've heard the wooden people tend not to be popular. My older girls seemed to like them when they were little. The following house has different dolls so I had looked at that too
