Hopefully that got your attention!

Is there any way of editing what's in the Top 100 downloads? Only the DDs use my Kindle, and although neither of them have downloaded anything they shouldn't have, I don't especially want a 9 yo and a 14 yo to have to scroll past Some Like it Rough, and Lucy Gives It Up For The Boss to see if there's anything they might like to read. It's just all a bit in your face really. I don't recall there being as much "adult content" a few months back, so I'm wondering if my settings have changed, or if it's just an indication of what other people are downloading.

Or is the Top 100 a kind of Other People Who Bought What You Bought, Bought This? In which case Blush but surely there's some way of keeping it child appropriate if you want?

I wondered that . Some of the blogs and magazine titles are a bit dubious too.

Don't know either sorry. Have you tried one of the kindle forums like the Goodreads Uk Kindle forum or one of the forums on Amazon?

stigofthelump · 06/04/2012 09:09

I was wondering this too as would love to give dd a kindle for his birthday, hope you find out

hermioneweasley · 06/04/2012 09:15

Oo, what are your recommendations? I was a Emma holly devotee but have recently been buying bella Andre

Grin at hermione.

I don't know, but I'ld love to find out, some of it is too much for my tastes, never mind kids!

Project Guttenburg is a good site for downloads. All free books. Mostly pre 1920 but amongst them are some real gems.

IShallWearMidnight · 07/04/2012 11:09

well, according to the FAQ on the Goodreads forum (thanks for that pointer) you can't filter out adult content. Very annoying.

That is annoying I agree.

top 100 children's books

I still heartily recommend and endorse Project Gutenberg. Most books on there have Kindle versions available and all are legally free.

You're not going to find the newest of things on there but there are some fantastic reads, all of Jules Verne, HG Wells, all the Tarzan, Sherlock Holmes, Jungle Book, Grimm's Fairy tales, Mark Twain and Dickens. A most excellent resource.

IShallWearMidnight · 07/04/2012 15:57

theFoosa- can I get that list directly on the kindle though? I've only managed to get the Top 100, which is the problem. Although maybe I should let them have access to my Amazon account to search for stuff, as I don't have one-click on there so it's actually harder to "accidentally" buy something. And you have to deliberately hunt out adult stuff as well.

I've been using Project Gutenberg for a long time, even though reading books on a computer screen is horrid - yes, it is a fantastic resource.

I've found it to be a pain on PCs and the phone but on Kindle it works just right.
