Britax Kid

Gillian76 · 02/02/2006 16:24

Graco Rally. Mothercare sales lady said it was better than their earlier models. Cost about £50

bundy · 02/02/2006 16:26

maxi cosi rodi (age 4-11) when it was on special offer on kiddicare.com

maretta · 02/02/2006 16:27

This is the which report here

LIZS · 02/02/2006 16:29

dd still in Britax Freeway at almost 4 1/2, ds had Maxi Cosi Rodi from 4.

WigWamBam · 02/02/2006 16:29

We have the Recaro Start, cost a fortune but it's comfortable, supportive and is meant to fit up to age 11. We also bought the footrest to go with it, as dd had been uncomfortable in her old seat with her legs dangling in mid-air.

foxinsocks · 02/02/2006 16:32

britax hi-liner is £40 off in halfords and is £39.99 at the moment

NannyL · 02/02/2006 19:16

My 5 year old charge has a Britax highliner (voted on of the best in Which magazine!)

as long as your 4 year old is over 15kg the ones Which? recommend are Britax Kid, Britas Highliner, Maxi cosy Rodi and the concord lift, so probably best to go for one of those!

A few did Really BADLY including the Cracgo one thats almost the same!

My nearly 4 year old is so tiny she still travels in the Britax Renaissance and will do until she is 15kg! (which i doubt will be for at least another year!)

GDG · 02/02/2006 19:20

Britax highliner

Hulababy · 02/02/2006 19:22

DD is nearly 4 and both me and DH have a Jane Indy Plus car seat in our cars. It's an Isofix booster seat.

Hulababy · 02/02/2006 19:23

Following the Which report PILs also bought a Britax Hi Liner for their car.

I can't get maretta's link to work - anyone else want to try?

Are any of the 4 NannyL suggests - Britax Kid, Britax Highliner, Maxi Cosi Rodi and Concord Lift - isofix?

Think ds is almost 15kg, but not quite 3. Hate lifting him up into his renaissance - kills my back... Is 3 too young to switch him?

LIZS · 02/02/2006 19:44

None of those are isofix- the only one is the Jane Indy Plus whcih atm is suitable from 9kg but design will change shortly to be 15kg + . Maxi Cosi now have isofix verisons of the Cabrio and Priori so hopefully the Rodi may be next. Not sure I'd switch from a harnessed one before 3 tbh despite his size, unless you can seriously trust him not to play with the belt or socket. Can he not climb in himself for you ?

gingernut · 02/02/2006 19:48

The link works for me tassis. I have skim-read it and can't see any mention of Isofix. Can't your ds climb into his seat? Mine could well before age 3 (I know because I encouraged him to as I was pg soon after he was 2 and found it too much of a strain to lift him).

We have the Maxi Cosi Rodi (which isn't Isofix BTW). We are happy with it.

yoyo · 02/02/2006 20:10

Justine from Mumsnet had a list of recommended car seats in The Guardian yesterday (G2).

LilacBump · 02/02/2006 20:13

britax hi liner. it's excellent.

NannyL · 02/02/2006 21:10

tassis none of them are ISOFIX... as far as i know the only ISOFIXseat for 15kg+ is the Jane one, but that has not been independantly reviewed.

also a child who is less than 15kg should NOT be in a seat for 15kg+.... children are even safer in a (correctly fitting, good scoring etc) car seat with a 5 point harness anyway, so its safer to leave them in those until they are nearer 18kg if they still fit!

tassis · 02/02/2006 21:16

thanks all

I wouldn't move ds before he was 15kg and I would prefer to keep him in 5point harness as long as poss.

He should be able to climb up and does sometimes. It's a britax renaissance and is pretty high (which seemed like a good thing when he was 9 months, but is now a pain).

Liking the sound of the hi-liner being half price in halfords. Maybe i'll forget the isofix thingy...

tassis · 02/02/2006 21:33

managed to open the which thing now and have looked at the hi-liner

kiddicare have carseats that do from 9months to 11years, ie that can have a 5 point harness, or use the adult seatbelt. this was what I had in mind. unfortunately none of these were on the which thing...
