Car Insurance for Teenage Boy

My 18 year old just passed his test. He had an old small engine Clio worth £1700.
Looking for insurance quotes - he is the main driver - cheapest I'm getting is around £2700. Spent hours on internet sites and direct ins companies.

Anyone any ideas of who can do cheaper or anyone had a DC who has done an advanced driving course which brought the premiums down.

Thanks

Marking this thread as have a 20 year old student DS who has been on our insurance but will soon be getting his own car (also a basic Clio).
A friend who insured her two sons a year or so ago found Direct Line to be the best (and possibly the cheapest) but this may now be out of date.

Quick update for anyone else in same situation.

Just about every site aimed at young drivers was more expensive than the average of £2,700.

An advanced driving course costs about £130 and will reduce the premium by about £130!
Direct Line, Esure and Churchill would not quote.

Tried multiple car ins with Admiral and quote came in at £3,900 which as it only costs £180 to insure my own car, £200 for husband's meant this it was going to cost over £3,500 for the Clio!

Finally went with Aviva - taking a two car policy cost just under £2k. My poor credit card:(
