Ergo Heart 2 Heart Infant Insert

Hi,

This is my first time posting on Mumsnet and I'm hoping that someone will be able to help me :) I've just bought an Ergo carrier as DH and I are about to go away for our first ever weekend away with the baby who is now 9 weeks old. Until now, we've been using the Caboo sling carrier with DD but as we're planning on doing some (gentle) hikes, we thought that a more structured carrier would be better as well as less likely to overheat DD when she's in it. We bought the Heart 2 Heart infant insert but DD is 14lbs and seems too big for it. Either that or I'm putting her in it incorrectly. I have read the instructions and watched the instructional video countless times and I am doing it exactly as they say, but DD not only looks uncomfortable and too big for it, but she also cries in the insert. I'm not surprised as she looks completely squashed in the insert (the middle strap won't even clip in place with her in it). Does anyone else have this problem? I know they say that the insert must be used until DD has good head control, but has anyone tried using it without the Heart 2 Heart but with just the cushion base instead and legs in frog position? Will this damage my baby? I would hate to do that! If she doesn't cry if in the Ergo without the insert, does this mean she is happy and comfortable?

Thanks!!!
