There are some pretty good offers this month from Dell and I was wondering if anyone had bought a computer from Dell, how was their customer service and do you know if the PC's come with Microsoft office already on them, can't find this out on the website?

Our laptop came from Dell - no problems with customer service, delivery and so on and it was a very good spec for the price. Don't know if the PCs come with Office - sorry.

We have a desktop and a laptop from Dell and would recommend. If you order Microsoft Office your computer arrives with the software installed, license code attached, and back-up discs.

Just make sure you order carefully, because they can't change orders once they're submitted - for this reason our laptop is only covered against theft, and not accidental damage. oops

We bought a laptop from Dell just over three years ago, delivery and customer service was great, but we have had loads of problems with the laptop, infact today I am using our 6/7 year old desk top because the laptop is poorly again. But it seems a lot of people have only had good equipment and would use them again, not sure if I would, they are excellent at sorting out the problems but it isn't that good that we have had so many problems in the first place IYKWIM?

My experience with Dell is that so long as things go OK with the equipment, then they are great .... BUT as soon as things go wrong - you cannot get hold of them and the after-sales care is totally CRAP

Try Delloutlet.co.uk - same computers, just already built so you don't get to choose the spec. But you still get the warranty. Cheaper than Dell and they have offers as well.

Just ordered a new desk top for my daughter (original quote £489, but with add ons came to £638) and a lap top for my mum. Both due to arrive on Saturday but my mum's lap top arrived yesterday - the delivery man said they do not deliver Saturdays. I was told a delivery time of between 8 and 2!!! My daughter's computer is due to arrive on Wednesday.

Hope they are okay!!

If you buy one make sure you buy it through quidco! Dell give 6.5 cash back through that site!

Mistymoo · 27/01/2006 16:55

My dh is IT Manager at his work and he buys all Dell computers and recommends them. Infact I'm using a Dell laptop as I type!

MaryBS · 27/01/2006 17:13

I would recommend them.

You can buy MS office from them, but you can save money by buying a "Student and Teacher" edition, if you have a school age child - its not at all difficult to install yourself

Cristina7 · 27/01/2006 17:34

We ordered ours last wednesday and it arrived on Monday. I'm very pleased with it so far. They phoned Monday evening to see if we'd received it but we hadn't installed it yet.

We had a small business and bouth all PCs and some for personal use too - from Dell. They're fantastic. Never ever ever had a problem with any of the PCs. Don't know about customer service as we never had to call or write! Really recommend. Not to mention how cheap they are comparing to some on high street.

bubblerock · 27/01/2006 22:11

I got my desktop from Dell outlet for under £200 - and it's great, I'd recommend them (it had windows XP home on but not office - although it has now )

MrsSpoon · 27/01/2006 22:18

We have two Dell PC (and used to have a Dell laptop but have recently sold it), DS1 is hankering after a computer and we will more than likely buy Dell for him too when we eventually say yes , they are really good value for money, never had any problems with them.

JanH · 27/01/2006 22:25

Our PC is from Dell, coming up to 3 years old and the only prob was that the original screen died - they replaced it, no probs.

The printer that came with was Lexmark - OK but ink refills extortionate. The ones now sold as Dell are also Lexmark. Decline and buy one separately - Canon/Epson/HP best.
