Hi

Was wondering if anyone had any experience of this car and if they rated it? I'm learning to drive at the moment and this is the only car that I seem to be able to drive properly due to my short legs!

Would be grateful for any feedback!

I had a 1995 one for 10 years. They are great! Reliable, nippy, spacious and still quite cool. Barely needed anything replacing in all that time. I'd recommend getting one with air con though!

Great - thanks for the feedback Sonriente. How are they for boot space and back space for passengers? I will have DS who is 2 and in Maxi Cosi Axis seat and DD who is in a booster seat and sometimes an adult in the back too - do you think they will fit in comfortably?

Hi, I've had 3 attempts at getting the perfect compact car that I can fit children and all their paraphernalia in, the boot isn't all that big on the polo and we struggled frankly.
I am now driving my idea of car heaven, a Mercedes A160. It is cheaper to run and insure than the VW, they are hugely safe (they exceed the ncap standards), and are great if you don't have very long legs like me lol!
They do hold their value, but as they seem to last for ever you could confidently buy a slightly older one and still be ok.
If you do have a few £ and were planning on buying a new polo, the A160 is being discontinued so there are good deals to be done, MB have also set targets for their dealers to outsell BMW 1 series.. I got a £4.5k contribution to mine, making it cheaper than a new polo!
Good luck and don't take any old bollocks from the salesmen, MB also had the only salesmen who didn't try and sell my husband the car and talk down to me grrrrrr!

I had a 1998 Polo from new for 9 years, brilliant car. Sold it locally to a Polish guy who drove it around for a year, he had to go back home so drove it TO Poland, apparently it's still going (bless it) Grin

My Polo is 17 years old (1995) and it's absolutely brilliant, the only time it has ever let me down was when I drove over a nail and got a puncture.

It's supposed to be our second car and we have bigger "family" cars but we always end up driving about in the Polo because it's so reliable and economical. It's an absolute dream.
