Wool or cotton tights for adults: any tips where to find them?

Hello all. I had such great tips on a previous 'products' thread that I am going to try again: what I am after, for myself, is wool or cotton tights in sludgy sort of colours: olivey green, dusty blue (not navy), or grey. I have had no luck in John Lewis where I always used to get them. Nor H & M, Selfridges, M & S, other usual suspects. Also no luck on internet but maybe I am missing something!
Any suggestions will be gratefull received.

Buy white and dye?

lucy123 · 14/11/2003 15:08

I have this problem every winter. Best place I've found is Debenhams, or failing that the tights stall in Lincoln market (though they didn't have as much variety as they used to last time I looked).

suedonim · 14/11/2003 15:50

Apparently, thick tights are going to be v trendy this winter, hurrah! Here's an article with lots of manufacturers' names . I'm sure if you email them they'd tell you their stockists. Hth.

soyabean · 15/11/2003 14:58

Thanks all. Lucy123 I will try Debenhams, and I am going to phone a couple of the stockists' numbers from that article, Suedonim. boyandgirl, hadnt thought iof dyeing but it could be worth a try although I'm not sure if there are many white woolly ones around in adult sizes either. Anyway, thank you for the suggestions.
I have nice new boots and they are crying out for woolly tights but most of my old ones are completely saggy and revolting. So I am on a mission and will report back.

Are you expecting to spend a lot of time on the phone then?

magnum · 15/11/2003 19:37

We might love woolly tights but do you think dh's will be quite so keen? (Or do we care?)

tamum · 15/11/2003 19:44

Some of the ones mentioned in suedonim's article are featured here . Not exactly cotton or wool, but they look quite nice.

(magnum: no and no )

Teletubby · 15/11/2003 20:44

Soyabean - Are they for you? If so have you tried looking for these colours in stockings or hold ups? I've always found a wide range of colours whilst shopping plus i find them far more comfortable.

Teletubby · 15/11/2003 20:50

PS - with regards to the point made about husbands views on tights, my husband can barely bring himself to say the word and feels that they are the best contraceptive invented ie he'd run the other way! Does anyone have a partner who actually likes them?

hoxtonchick · 15/11/2003 23:36

Have just ordered 4 pairs of tights from My Tights to wear with my new Ugg boots, thanks to this thread. Will report back when they arrive. The colours were gorgeous.

soyabean · 16/11/2003 13:42

Which ones did you get Hoxtonchick?

OP posts:
suedonim · 16/11/2003 13:47

I ordered tights from Mytights, too! Thx for the address.

soyabean · 16/11/2003 13:52

I got 2 soft opaque Levante pairs (antracite & mocca - I'm guessing that means grey & brown...), 1 pair of Jonathan Aston funky opaques in hyacinth (this may have been a mistake) & some black Levante fishnets. I will be hovering eagerly by the letter box all next week. Which ones are you going for, Soyabean?

soyabean · 16/11/2003 18:38

I think the anthracite ones too, and Levante wool camel ones, and maybe some Falke 'jeans blue ones'altho they seem a bit pricey.
Magnum I dont think I have never even thought about what dp thinks when choosing my clothes: does everyone else?!

soyabean · 16/11/2003 20:50

I have placed my order: lets compare notes when they all arrive!

suedonim · 19/11/2003 09:32

Mine arrived just now! The colours and fabric are gorgeous, although the mocha pair is a bit boring - I should have expected that...I mean it's brown, isn't it??

hoxtonchick · 19/11/2003 13:00

Mine came yesterday (that's super quick, I think, having just ordered on Sat night), & I've got the antracite ones on. They are indeed grey. Very comfy & shiny, & were noticed at mums & toddlers. Am not at all sure when I'm going to wear the hyacinth ones though...

soyabean · 19/11/2003 20:49

Oh thats exciting, maybe mine will come tomorrow!

Teehee, dd1, aged 16, was deeply shocked at the turquoise and bright pink tights I ordered. "You're not going out dressed in THOSE, are you??" she said.

soyabean · 20/11/2003 12:50

And are you going out in them? Mine came today. My blue ones are kind of bright, not sure on which occasion I will wear them, or with what. But the wool ones are nice and the 'anthracite'(standard grey but never mind!). Good speedy service anyway so I will plug them again: mytights.com

OP posts:
suedonim · 20/11/2003 13:21

Um, not yet, Soyabean - I have to scour the shops for a skirt which will go with them!! (Me, an impulse buyer?? Whatever can you mean? )

soyabean · 20/11/2003 14:04

Suedonim I think I need a whole new look to go with my bright blue ones, maybe I should call in Trinny and Susannah

OP posts:
suedonim · 20/11/2003 14:33

Heh heh heh!! Great excuse for a spending spree, Soyabean - "But dahhling - I need to buy new clothes. You wouldn't want me to waste money by not wearing my new tights, would you??"

jannyhanny · 07/12/2004 04:22

regargin what Teletubby said about husbands views on tights. my husband loves tights. its his "thing!" when he first told me about it I was a little confused as to why any man would like tights, but as time has gone by i have got into it as much as he is.
and the best part of it is,,,,,,,he buys all my tights, so i dont have to spend a penny.
