Three car seats in the back.

Help, third child on the way which will give us three under threeyrs old, hence need to accomodate two car seats and infant carrier. Bought a Vauxhall Zafira last year - it is a seven seater but the two extra seats are literally in the boot and I wouldn't put a child on one of them unless it was a one off emergency. (You can't get three seats across the back.)

Is a Ford S-Max likely to work for me....Anyone have one? Any other makes I could look at?

Citroen Picasso is your (very cheap) friend here I fancy.

Three proper seats in the back - could put in three big first stage seats if you had to - and a fancy digital speedo! What more could you want?

I believe the Nissan version (Primo???) works too.

lisad123 · 20/01/2012 00:10

Fiat multipla has 3 in the back easy and 3 in the front too.

bellabelly · 20/01/2012 00:11

You could buy a multi-mac car seat... link They are ££s but worth it if it saves you forking out for new car. We have a 4-seater one but you can get different combinations. To start with our baby twins were in "minimacs", ie baby seats, which youcan lift in and out.

Renault grand scenic.
that's what we use.

PeanutButterOnly · 21/01/2012 21:12

Renault scenic will work but our 2006/auto 2.0 model has had reliability issues so we're looking to replace with an S-Max which will give us more flexibility and boot space, but seems very pricey! There's also the Toyota Verso which I think should take 3 seats in the middle row and is supposed to be a practical option but not very exciting. Or the Citroen picasso will definitely do it.

redridingwolf · 21/01/2012 21:13

another vote for the Citroen Xsara Picasso here!

Littlefish · 21/01/2012 21:18

Citroen xsara Picasso. I would suggest you. Put the middle child in first or it can be a bit awkward to do them up.

3monkeys · 21/01/2012 21:20

Ford galaxy fits 3 across the back and 2 full size seats in boot too.Really fab and nice to drive

onelittleclara · 21/01/2012 21:26

You have a Zafira already? You can get three seats across the middle row. I have a Zafira, with one infant seat/base, a wide high back booster and a toddler seat. Rather than a new car have you considered the width of your child seats?

pepperrabbit · 21/01/2012 21:32

I have 3 seats across my Zafira middle row too...
DSs were 4 & 2 and both in biggish seats when DD arrived, changed their seats a couple of times since but all 3 still fit @7/5/3.

notfarmingatthemo · 22/01/2012 18:21

you can get three across the zafira, just depends on the seats you have. What seats do you have someone will be able to suggest which one/ones to change even if you have to change all three cheaper than new car.

sarahken · 22/01/2012 21:27

in the zafria do you have to get the middle belt changed to an across the body one?

pepperrabbit · 22/01/2012 21:28

Mine has 3 proper diagonal belts in the middle row (actually all 7 are diagonals)

Beamur · 22/01/2012 21:29

Citroen Picasso has 3 good sized seats in the back and is pretty cheap too. We used to have a Zafira but found the back cramped - 2 older kids (not in seats) and one child seat, but the middle seat was too small.

PeanutButterOnly · 22/01/2012 21:45

Beamur is right. That's the difference between some of these cars. Some of them have 3 seats in the back that are the same size. With some the middle seat is narrower, e.g. in the Scenic and the Zafira. With the Scenic, when ours were 0, 3 and 5, we found we couldn't get our high-backed booster + Group 1 seat side by side. We could put the rear-facing baby carrier in the middle with the others either side. Or we could put a booster cushion in the middle. It just wasn't convenient to have the baby carrier in the middle so our compromise, as the elder one turned 6, was to put him on the booster cushion in the middle. By then the middle one was 4, and so we had two on boosters. You can't get our 2 high-backed boosters side by side in the Scenic either. Maybe there are some that will work though.

redridingwolf · 24/01/2012 08:07

We have a Xsara Picasso, and our 4 yr old's high-back booster is in the middle (secured by seatbelt). The 2.7 yr old's (bigger) high back booster, and the baby's rear-facing seat are on either side, secured by ISOFIX. There is space between each seat. There will be room for 3 high-back boosters in a row when they are all at that stage.

mamasmissionimpossible · 24/01/2012 08:16

We have just bought a toyota verso (7 seater) as we have dc3 due in a month. It is easily fits three car seats at the back.

7bluebell · 26/01/2012 22:29

Thank you! Will definitely look at the Xsara Picasso.
In answer to notfarmingatthemo we went to John Lewis and had all sorts of different seat combinations in their fitting bay and the staff there couldn't get three in and fastened correctly.

We have a kia sedona with three proper seats across the back (and two more in the boot).

DorisIsWaiting · 26/01/2012 22:41

It also has the massive benefit of sliding doors when trying to get small people into carseats ( I had three under 4).

singarainbow · 26/01/2012 22:48

I have a Kia Rio (2003), that has 2 seats with boosters & backs, and one stage 2 car seat which is also an infant seat when reversed. I had to have a 3 point selt belt installed as the middle was just a lap belt, but cheaper than buying a new car!
Kia Rios are really reliable & chip as chips too, I am about to sell mine for about £500 (if I am lucky)

tiredandbusy · 26/01/2012 23:10

Citroen C4 grand Picasso- love it !

thisisyesterday · 28/01/2012 19:48

we have a volvo v70 and have 3 across the back.
pics on my profile

alison222 · 28/01/2012 19:51

We have a C4 Picasso and you can get 3 seats in it but at least one of them needs to be a booster width one not one of the stage 2 seats which are wider.

RedHotPokers · 16/02/2012 23:12

Anyone know if you can get 3 car seats (or 2 car seats and an adult) in the back of a Mercedes a class? 2 of the seats would be booster/stage 3.

I have a Picasso currently which is great, but its getting old.
