Best mum car?

So we've got an ancient vw campervan and that's done us proud till now, but it's a bugger to drive and park (love the van, hate driving it!) and DH has just got a job so will leave me and DS, 2 home alone.

The time has come for a sensible mum car. Prior to the van I've only really dealt with pushbikes or vintage sports cars (ahh my single life) so would welcome any suggestions...

I'm after something small, fun to drive and cheap to run, economical and with space for one child seat, if not two (fingers crossed maybe sometime in the future will have number two, who knows). I fancy one of those little retro Fiats but they only have two doors - will that be a massive problem?

Boot space etc not massive issue as will be keeping the camper.

Thoughts?

Don't know what Suzuki are like now- I had a Wagon a few years back and although it was a very reliable car (the only time it let me down was when the passenger door wasn't closed and the lights were on inside which drained the battery.Battery was quite old)

But it was a nightmare to get parts for. They had to be ordered in. Even with tyres, the garage only ever had one in stock Confused, so I had to wait days to replace tyres.
