I currently have a 2003 reg battered Multipla which runs ok, doesn't cost too much in maintenance.
Ds1 has just started new school which requires a 45min round trip twice a day in a rural area. This has increased weekly fuel costs by approx £30. I would quite like a 4x4 as the school run will become challenging with snow and ice.
We are 2 adults and 3 kids. DH uses public transport during the week. Ds1 big enough for front, other 2 on boosters. It's not often all five of us are in the car together apart from holidays (camping usually).
I have been considering a Fiat Panda, great for school run and more economical but probably not brilliant for holidays and long trips. Undecided as to how much this matters.
Also looking at Skoda Yeti, ticks 4x4 box, roomier than Panda but economy wise may not be any better than current car.
Or I could just live with current car, suck up the increase in fuel and hope the snow holds off. I suppose the cost of a new (to me) car possibly renders concerns over fuel costs moot anyway!
Any thoughts?
