Has anyone bought any of the books in the latest kindle sale, and if so, which ones do you recommend?

I havent got anything, but have read the email... Its on my 'get round to' list.

Dustinthewind · 27/12/2011 08:39

Ahem.
I've bought about 14 I think. I have very eclectic tastes, a serious book habit and it is so very easy to one-click. Haven't had time to read any of them yet, but at 99p a book it was worth the indulgence.
What sort of stuff do you like to read?

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 27/12/2011 08:50

On my (also fairly eclectic) wish list so far:
Pharmacology by Christopher Herz
Map of a Nation by Rachel Hewitt
Classical Education: the stuff you wish you'd been taught at school
True History of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey

For the DC:
The Unforgotten Coat by Frank Cottrell Boyce
You're a bad man, Mr Gum

Of the mainstream fiction, there's some books I've already read and enjoyed:
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
a couple by Victoria Hislop - the Return and The Island
Small Island by Andrea Levy

Nothing to Envy:Real Lives in North Korea is excellent,so far, though also very disturbing at times.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 28/12/2011 09:28

Dust just trying to think which books I've enjoyed this year and it's quite hard to decide what I like, since I was given my Kindle I think my tastes have broadened Smile.

Loved Tiger Hlls and One Day, though I know that usually gets a slating on MN, and Stone's Fall which were all for my book group. Also loved White Tiger and have just finished A Winter's Tale, which I also loved. Oh and the first Wallander book got me totally hooked.

Satsuma haven't looked at your other choices but have already read Mr Gum to DS and I think I enjoyed it more than him, lots of giggling at bedtime Smile.

La Fille think that would be right up my street!

Morning.

I got a Kindle for Christmas and I'm a bit clueless, I have found the freebie classics. Is there an easy way to search them or do they make it difficult on purpose?

Totally agree with Dustinthewind the one-click thing is a recipe for a huge bill.

Any tips or hints on where to go and what to download gratefully received.

topsytinselturner · 28/12/2011 09:37

Go on Amazon Kindle shop RebeccaMumsnet . They do a top 100 list of books . One list to buy , one list of freebies . I am always downloading the freebies . cheapskate

RebeccaMumsnet · 28/12/2011 09:40

I like the idea of reading allllll of the classics that I have never managed to read. I think I may be setting the bar too high!

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 28/12/2011 09:42

free collection page has links to popular classics and timelimited promotions.

RebeccaMumsnet · 28/12/2011 09:44

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 28/12/2011 09:48

RebeccaMumsnet · 28/12/2011 10:06

Soft porn you say... Xmas Grin roode.

TheAnnoyingSatsuma · 28/12/2011 10:12

My friend commutes by train and she reckons that lots of folk have embraced the kindle as a way of reading whatever they want, without being judged by fellow commuters Wink

JiltedJohnsJulie · 28/12/2011 12:50

Rebecca you can search here for the titles or authors you are looking for or take a look at the top 100 free books as many of the classics appear in the list.

I tend to have a classic on the go and read other stuff in between.

Am being worryingly good, still haven't bought a thing from the sale yet. Would appreciate a few more recommendations Smile.
