Ice tyres ?

Are there any special tyres that I can buy for using on the ice, I drive a Renault Scenic. Are there any things I can fit to my existing tyres for use in the ice ? I am frightened of driving on icy roads and now that I have to do the school run with all 3 kids in the car I could do with something to make me feel more confident.

This might sound like i am TTP but you can buy things called snow socks!!!

We've not tried them as luckily one of our cars is 4wheel drive so we werent snowed in but were contemplating buying them for our other car.

Just looked at them, look dead good.

Winter tyres are what you need. Good winter tyres will give you better grip than regular tyres at temperatures below about 7 Celsius, if I recall correctly and will give you vastly more grip in snow and ice.

Snow socks may be good for getting you out of tricky situations and heavy snow but they can't be used on tarmac.

Just be careful with your insurance with snow tyres. Apparently snow tyres can make your insurance go up!!! Bit of a joke really, but would be worth checking incase it does push up you premium.

No snow where i am yet!!!! We were snowed in this time last year.... Grin

As long as you use the right winter tyres, as recommended by the manufacturer, it should not cause a problem with your insurance. (That's "should not", not "won't". Insurers can be numpties.)
