Where is the best place to get an IPOD for DH birthday?

DH wants an ipod for his birthday but really its more than I've got to spend. I was hoping they would be reduced slightly in the sales but haven't found any on offer. I've looked in all the normal places (dixons, etc) and am a bit wary of ebay for something so expensive. Anyone know a good place to get one. He's happy with the bog standard 20gb one without photo, video etc. They all seem to be about £200. Anyone help?

Try a website such as Pricerunner to get the best price comparisons. I'd always go somewhere'safe' like John Lewis ( better service and longer free guarantees on many electrical type things!) -also they will price match to ensure theayt are the cheapest in that particuar area. Good luck

I spent ages on kelkoo but just seemed to get long lists of accessories and couldn't figure out how to focus it. Will check out John Lewis though - good idea.

You're unlikely to get any real discounts - Apple have it tied up - so either go to John Lewis or Apple via the link below (andthey'll engrave it for free). The 4GB nano is tiny and holds 1000 songs for £179, if you really want 20GB or more you're going to have to pay over £200.

vickiyumyum · 05/01/2006 13:48

i got my dh one from john lewis.com for christams, as there weren't any offers and are unlikely to be, as even the discontinued ones such as the mini ipod are going for huge sums of money still.

the delivery at johnlewis was free and when dh had a problem with it they fixed it straight away, no questions asked. (it froze and they showed dh how to solve it if it happened again)

Hmmmm. Like the idea of the engraving. Plus its avaiable in black.
Need to think of something clever to add though. Anyone know any great quotes from architects or environmentalists (not depressing stuff though!)

Got my 4 gb black nano this morning. I ordered it from nano online for £179 on Sunday. We weer told a 2 week wait before dispatch but we got it today (4 days later) engraved for free. It is tiny weeny. I had a mini one last year before it broke and this is less than half that size!

It was engraved for free. We couldn't think of anything witty to put on it so we had our name and postcode, we thought that way at least if it was stolen and recovered we would know its ours!

dabs is always a good bet.

my black nano is SOOOOOOOO sleek

"Here are my rules: what can be done with one substance must never be done with another. No two materials are alike. No two sites on earth are alike. No two buildings have the same purpose. The purpose, the site, the material determine the shape. Nothing can be reasonable or beautiful unless its made by one central idea, and the idea sets every detail. A building is alive, like a man"

The cheapest I've found is from here I think they charge about a fiver for delivery.
I personally have never used them, and it still comes to just a little over £200 with delivery.....

Hulababy · 05/01/2006 19:55

I have the black Nano and only the 2Gb one. That holds about 600 songs, which is plenty for what I needed it for. That cost £139. Looks fab too!

fuzzywuzzy · 05/01/2006 19:55

Actually that's the 30gb one, they do the 2gb one for £131....

gs · 09/01/2006 11:47

an idea is to buy from boots as you get the points but also if you manage to get it when they are doing triple points or get a code you can actually get a significant amount back. good luck

PrincessPeaHead · 09/01/2006 11:47

john lewis.
they break so often you need the guarantee

MarsLady · 09/01/2006 11:49

are you in London? Apple have a store in Regents Street!

frogs · 09/01/2006 11:52

My favourite source for all things Apple-related is a company called Jigsaw .

Don't know about sale prices, but their service is extremely good -- next day delivery, and v. good tech support from people who know what they're doing (as opposed to the '40 minutes on hold to speak to a rude 17-yo scenario' so beloved of most helplines.
