I would like to get dd a bike for her third birthday but preferably not pink with a doll seat, not barbie etc I would like something in primary colours that is not gender specific, any suggestions, ideas?

dd1 has a yellow bike from Decathlon. not gender specific. i think they do a range of colours.

we did put a doll seat, front basket and bell on though.

would never let a barbie bike in the house! I have 3 girls but absolutely nothing Barbie!

How much was it and where did you get it? I totally agree about the no Barbie rule.

have you thought about a like-a-bike to get her started?

Lilliput · 03/01/2006 20:54

What's a like-a-bike?

huh! My MIL bought my DD a pink bike with 'things' hanging off the handle bars... FFS

I would have liked to pick and buy my DD a bike... NOT like the one she did...

sorry... I ranted a bit there

I saw a lovely red one with no basket, just a bell I think.. where was it.. hmm was it in the Argos book? Or Smyths? You probably don't have a Smyths Toy Superstore near you do you?

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 03/01/2006 20:56

Well I don't think it is gender specific personally...DS has the Firefighters bike from Halfords which will be handed down to DD. It is a cute bike, red, with firefighters on and it has a box on the back.

MrsBoo · 03/01/2006 22:52

My DD is already practising on my DS's old Bob the Builder bike. My DS is onto his third bike now, and he has just turned 6. So poor old DD will have to use hand-me-downs!

our Decathlon bike actually came from a car boot sale. £10 in excellent condition. but you can also get them, I believe, from Decathlon shops. and i've seen ones in other colours, such as green. it's a nice bike. especially as it features NO children's characters

Sorry to bump this but I've had no luck finding a bike in a primary colour anywhere on the internet

I just got my nearly 3yo a likeabike - here - I didn't get one of these, but something similar off ebay which was about £35. they are meant to be very good for teaching children to ride/balance.

my dd isn't too impressed atm, as she also got a Fimbles scooter,

GoodKingWestCountryLass · 05/01/2006 21:46

Thi is the firechief bike from Halfords:

catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=166428&categoryId=38246&langId=

Too boyish?

hi lilliput, sorry I couldn't come back to you before now.
there are a few threads about like-a-bike. try an archived search, esp in 'products.
for example this one

Lilliput · 06/01/2006 21:54

I've cracked it! She's really into winnie the pooh just now and I found a great w-t-p green bike on ebay. The like-a bike looks cool but I think she would think I had gone mad, she has been coveting a friends barbie bike.
