3G or not 3G

Hello Smile
My mum wants to buy her DH a kindle for Xmas but has noi idea about them, nor do I.
He's a gadget freak, he'll use it on the train going into office and at home and he reads war & peace epic style books.
He has a 4G i-phone.
Cost of kindle not a worry.

So what type should I advise her to go for in your opinion?

Thanks x

We didn't bother with the 3G as we use the wireless at home to download the books. I can never see a situation where I would need to get a book so badly I can't get to somewhere with a wireless network.

However, if he's a gadget freak and the price is not an issue I'd always go for top of the range

i wouldn;t worry about 3g personally as there's enough space for storage so it's not like you are likely to run out of books etc to read suddenly without wifi, but if he's a gadget freak probably top of the range with all the bells and whistles is best!

As he's a gadget freak, I'd go for the 3g as I think the virtual keyboard on the new cheaper one would drive me nuts.... that sort of thing is fine for a touch screen but having to use a controller to select characters and type would be a pain....

I've got the 3g version and it was good on holiday to be able to download new books at the beach when I ran out of pre-purchased ones....

Also, 3g is good for anybody who doesn't have broadband or wifi - eg my MIL!

Also, as money no object, suggest she buys a case with lamp included or separate reading lamp too.... I've got a Kandle reading light for mine (bought fromm ebay but I think amazon sell them too) and its fantastic - no bendy neck to annoy me, just clips on the top like a bulldog clip....

I've got 3G. It means you can buy a new book where-ever in the world you are, and don't need a wireless connection. My case has a built in reading light, great for one partner to read in bed while the other goes to sleep.

I bought one for myself recently and so glad I paid extra for the 3G. I take epic train journeys and it's been invaluable! I'm the kind of person who likes being able to download there and then, not having to wait till I get home.

I borrowed my husbands when I was admitted to hospital. Having the 3g was very convenient because I could download books that I wanted - the hospital had no wireless network. Also, the Kindle Keyboard as they call it, holds more books than the new one. In fact, I was so impressed that I asked DH to get me my own for Christmas.

3G definitely.

I read very fast and can sometimes finish a book earlier than expected. If I am on holiday somewhere (like my MIL's) where there is no wifi then it is a pain.

And you can download a new book on the beach.
