Should I get dents repaired before trading car in?

My Ford Focus got v badly dented last year. At the time i got a few quotes to get it sorted which were £500-£1000. So I thought nah. Now I need a bigger car and hope to trade it in. Is it worthwhile getting it fixed first? I guess I'd have to pay repairs myself as it was me and the gate's fault? I'm wishfully wondering how to get insurance co to help me.
Anyone got any tips?

We did this prior to trading our Altea in last year, to be honest we probably only made back what we spent on getting it fixed, and the first thing the salesman pointed out was that we'd had it re-sprayed, so if you do decide to get it done get a better job than we did! We might have been unlucky but unless I was trying to sell privately rather than trade in I wouldn't bother next time.

If you are just using it as a trade in, you won't get a grand more for an undented car.
