"Shut the box" rules anyone?

My son received a German version of this game and there are no instructions enclosed, (not even in German)!

It has 2 dice and the wooden board with numbers that move up and down. My friend says it is the same as Shut the box, but we don't know how to play.
Can you help?

throw the dice add together say you got 4 and 5 total 9. you can shut either 9,8+1,7+2, 6+3or 5+4, same player throws again and close boxes again as before, when a player has closed 7,8 and 9 they can opt to throw only one dice if they want.the players turn ends when they can no longer close abox, thier score is the total of any remaining open boxes. the boxes are then opened and it is the next players go.player with the lowest score wins.
