Cheap ebooks on ebay

Has anyone bought one of those discs on ebay that have loads of ebooks on them, and if so was it OK? DH suggested I have a Kindle for Christmas and though I'm thrilled at the idea, money is really tight so I need to make sure it will be worth it without costing a fortune for the resources.

I know I can get a lot of free stuff on Guttenberg, and I know that Amazon do some free books, but the discs on ebay have like all of Dick Francis or all of Marian Keyes, for about a fiver and I don't understand how that is legally possible.

So are these offers for real? Do they work and are there any hidden costs after the purchase?

Yep, and it worked. I went for one where the books had to be converted which is very easy, but next time would do one where they are all on mobi to start off with.

Read the feedback for the sellers and you'll know if they are legit or not.

I also wondered about the legality of it as well. Surely it breaks copyright?

Thanks Katherine. I read some of the feedback which seemed fine but I just wondered if there was something I was missing - you know the saying 'if something seems too good to be true it usually is'! As you say, it must break copyright. If you buy a book you are at liberty to sell it on, but you can't make a thousand copies and sell all of them can you? Perhaps there's some loophole.

My library does ebooks but not in kindle format (apparently Amazon don't allow it) so I was wondering if not being able to afford to buy much would leave me with Guttenberg, and grabbing a load of freebies or 99p off Amazon and hopeing there was something decent amongst it.

I've read a few off the disc now and was relived that they didn't have chapters missing or the end etc.
