filofax, palm or other -- what do you use?

I'm still with my Filofax. Bedraggled as it is, I think it must be easier to use than some handheld agenda. Or am I wrong? Should I take a big step into the 21 century? What do you think?

I have tried a PDA type thing, plus various alternatives (I'm currently experimenting with the family-friendly diary you get from Organized Mum.com), but I keep coming back to the old filofax. If it works for you then I'd stick with it and save the ££.

I do love my filofax!

Since children I seem to be stepping backwards in terms of technology.

Prior children I had various handheld Psions - wonderful, did everything, way ahead of their time. I was surfing the net with mobile and Psion back in 96/97. Can't seem to do it with my current set up.

I have a family organiser calendar, so that I can co-ordinate everything. I needed the columns to work out which child/(dh) was where and who was doing transport etc. I need to be able to see a week at a time so that I can spot babysitting needs etc.

The downside is that I can't synchronise electronically with work diaries. And it is a tad bulky.

wow, ladymuck! i wouldn't have a clue how to set all that up but it sounds marvellously organised. I've been using Internet & sending email since 1996 (at work) but haven't caught on to PDAs. Wonder why?

I use my old ipaq PDA thingy for on the move, and at home I use Outlook on ym computer. have different colour labels for each of us and for different types of events/activties.

but what if you need to scribble something down in a hurry? at least with a filofax you don't have to switch anything on or fiddle about in any sort of techie way... I'm not arguing but I want to be convinced before I abandon my ratty filofax (poor old thing).

I am a bit of a tech geek and I love gadgets - but I would never give up my pocket Filofax - I love it! Some things I keep on my mobile phone which has a pretty good calendar, but my filofax is the best. I have had a Psion in the past but it just didn't suit me, even though I am the gadget queem (practically a man in fact) in every other way

If I need to make a note of some appointment I just "write" it onto my PDA. Not much time difference in piking up a filofax and turning to write age as pciking up my PDA and turning it on really.

Palm, chosen mostly because it is compatible with my work computer Outlook diary and contact list and I can hotsync between the 2. I have to admit that I don't like entering info on the Palm (find it too slow using the electronic pen) and so I just store up the info to enter via my office computer, then sync with the Palm - which I tend take away with me. Ladymuck, like you, I am the organiser in the family.

Although I would say that Palm is somewhat ancient and most people use blackberries where I work.

I've just started using a Dell Axim - mainly because it synchs with my work PC - but am finding it fab ! Have a Palm that dh bought me a few years back but never got on with it and went back to Filofax - but this Dell is great !

The only prob I have though is that I don't get the feeling of "time" with it that I get with a paper system - nothing seems to beat flicking through the pages to give me a real feeling of how far away or close an event is !
