Cheaper car seats????

I am soon to go back to work - yuk! and we really need to buy two extra car seats for ds1 who is 2.5 and ds2 who is 8 months but is about 22/23 lbs. We will only use them for the nursery run so we are not too impressed at the thought of getting two more top of the range ones and hoped to spend less ....however...today we bought a £17 one from Argos and it is terrible - just a bit of polystyrene so does anyone know where we can get fairly decent ones at no more than about £50 each - we live in Manchester but wondered if there were any good internet sites too...any ideas??

On reading this back it sounds like money is the only condition whereas that is obviously not the case and if it came to it we would obviously spend more!!!!

I brought two from Mothercare. They are suitable from 9 months and have straps but they can be removed if needed. They cost about £40. They are plastic too and the covers can be removed. I can't find them on their site so you may have to go and look in the shop.

Have you tried E-Bay. Having bought nigh on 4 buggies, car seats etc with dd1, I was determined to not make the same mistake with dd2.
Obviously cost was an issue also but ended up with fantastic M&S travel system for £50.

I'll give it a go - thanks

I feel tight saying I need them cheap but it seems over the top to have 4 car seats in the first place - but hassle of leaving them at nursery and installing them every evening is awful thought!

Also the other Argos one (the £36 recliner) isn't bad. The cover is a bit thin, but dd seemed comfy enough. Cover can be removed on that one too.

Hughsie · 30/10/2003 19:33

lucy123 - is that the stage 0-3 one with the harness? We actually bought the the next one up to that today and were reasonably impressed with that but may consider taking it back with the other one and swapping for the earlier version which I presume you are referring to.

One thing that I would say is that it has made me look at car seat comfort in general and I realise that none of them seem really comfy and well padded - most seem basic considering the outlay - this children business is a license to print money...off my soap box now!

Tesco had Britax Rangers in today (suitable from 9mths - 11yrs and fasten with a seat belt) for gbp 34.99.

Hughsie · 31/10/2003 08:33

Thanks sue domin - was that on Tesco.com? I'll give it a try.

I cant find any baby product s on their web site and our local store definitely does not sell such things - is it a large outlet you have near you?

It was in one of their stores, Hughsie, a Tesco Extra. It isn't near - 20miles away - but it's the only one we have!!

Hughsie · 31/10/2003 09:43

Thanks sd - I tthink there is one in the next town to me so will give it a try.

Hughsie - yes it was the stage 0-3 one.

But the Tesco offer sounds good!

Hughsie · 31/10/2003 16:01

Found Britax Ranger on kiddicare and care get a multi buy offer and free delivery that works out at 2 for £65 so that is a bargain.

Thanks everyone
