Please help me make my bedroom special

My husband and I have recently separated due to him having an affair. I am now redecorating MY bedroom so that it can be somewhere special for me. My ds 11 has AS and ADHD so I really need to special place to escape to.

I have already bought some beautiful Teal bedding and a rug so I would like to stick with that theme. I want to find some gorgeous wallpaper to make a feature wall behind my bed. Ideally I'd like something black and teal but there is so much out there Im getting lost.

If any of you lovely MNers have any suggestions Id be very grateful. TIA

What do you like doing? I bought an iPad so I can watch tv and films in bed. Also I did a huge declutter so it's very calm. I have a radio and a stack of books I am going to read. Am contemplating a teasmade so I can have a morning cup of tea. I love my bedroom...

dustystarry · 30/10/2011 08:30

I had a huge declutter yesterday. Cleared all his stuff from wardrobes etc plus went through my stuff. Also got myself a laptop a couple of days ago so I can use it in bed like you and your ipad Arthur. Ive just spent a relaxing hour watching Strictly on iplayer :) No teasmade for me though. Either ds or dd make me a cup of tea now. Can't wait for my new wardrobes and bed to come.

I've been watching Kirsty faff around with bits of paper on the iPad. Rather soothing in a pointless way. I Have a really good bar of chocolate in the bedside cabinet and some nice hand cream by the bed. Soft lighting and a picture I bought at an art fair that I really love.
It would be perfect if I didn't have dd (6) lying next to me snoring and grinding her teeth. She's been ill and will doubtless wake up in the night in a pool of sweat...

ChippingInAutumnLover · 30/10/2011 22:51

Would you like a very soft blanket to lay across the bottom of the bed?

Extra pillows/cushions so you can get really comfy with your laptop?

Little lights? Like fairy lights but something a bit more grown up?

Bedside lamps? (at least new shades if you can't justify new lights)

Have you bought the mirror yet?

When is the furniture arriving?

Definitely chocolate stash, books, mags, hand lotion...

dustystarry · 30/10/2011 23:08

lol at snoring dd arthur. I have two snoring springers. One of whom keeps farting! They do keep me company though :)

I have bought a lovely soft teal throw chipping and have been very indulgent and bought a gorgeous bedside light from next. I have decided on laminate flooring as it will be easier to keep clean and will look lovely against the teal :)

I have never spent so much on stuff for myself and its a nice feeling. I told h when I found out about the affair that I was going to take out £1000 of our savings and sort out all the bits of the house that needed doing. He's always been so tight with money that I tried to do everything on a budget - which usually meant me doing all the DIY etc. I havent told him that by the time Im finished most of that money will have been spent on my bedroom lol. Still if he hadnt slept with her in our bed once (at least) when I was away I wouldnt have felt the need to buy a new bed, duvet and pillows as well as updating the covers etc.

Not got the mirror yet as I thought Id get the wallpaper for that wall first and then find a mirror that will work against it.

Dusty - kind of them to snore & fart Grin They're Springers though, so you just have to forgive them don't you!!

Ooohhh it all sounds really, really lovely!! What is the throw made from?

I know, I read it on your other thread (about the £1000) frankly I didn't think it was anywhere near enough!!

I'm still absolutely spitting that he did that - it is just beyond the pale, beyond forgiveness in my book. Wanker.

I'm still debating laminate floor or carpet for here.... fortunately it's not a decision I have to make just yet because there are 600 things on the list before that and I don't have any money

Have you found any wallpaper that you like yet? Have you tried here

Got my flooring this morning as Wickes had a special offer that ends tomorrow. Its going to look so nice when its done :) Also got a few ideas for a mirror from the Range. Now need to shake off this cold so I can take full advantage of the next superwoman day that comes along and start clearing my room ready for decorating!

Well today has been a good day really. Emotionally draining what with counselling etc but I do have lovely new laminate for my bedroom plus I managed to get some really nice wallpaper today too. It was the last 2 rolls with matching batch numbers in the region too so luck must have been shining on me today :)

Right then bugger off cold and come back superwoman....I want to finish my bedroom. Tonight I actually feel genuinely excited about it Grin
