I received a lovely iPod for Christmas (nano) and a dock. What is the dock for? It charges when plugged into the usb thingy for the computer apparently. Help! The dock is just a dock. There are no extra pieces with it. Is that right? If so, what pieces do I need a from where. Can I plug it into my tv to play music through there?

Techies, help!

just bumping for you!!
Are there any instructions!

There will be a usb cable, with a big connector on one end, which you connect the iPod directly to the comouter with (hole at bottom of iPod).
The dock has the same hole, so you connect it with that, then the iPod just stands in it.
Don't know if you can plug it into your tv, but you may be able to if you have an adaptor.

The purpose of the dock is for people like me with desktops in cupboards that make the usb port inaccessible. So you plug the dock in (meaning we had to pull the computer out of the cupboard) and then you just have to put the ipod in the dock instead of reaching to the back of the computer each time. You do not need it if you can reach your usb port easily.

I got the 60GB video ipod under my tree

The dock can also be useful if you are travelling I take it with me to charge my ipod sometimes and hook it up to a plug! Everything you need to connect it comes with the ipod you just unhook it. Can only think you could play music through your tv if you had a usb port on your tv!

Get some speakers and it sounds great anyway hooked up to them just plug them in where the headphones socket is. I have a bosse bass station for mine which is absolutely fabulous. We all take turns to put our ipods in.

We use our dock to play music through our DVD speakers. Don't ask me how it works, but DH has rigged it up, so when the ipod is placed into the dock, it plays music through the DVD and charges at the same time! As we have two ipods - the other dock sits by the computer and is used for when we do changes on itunes, or play music through the computer speakers.

This way, we have managed to get rid of the monstrosity that was my husband's CD player (6 huge separate systems) and all the CDs in the house. All we have now is a pretty decent DVD player, suround sound speakers (Came with the DVD player) and the dock / ipod. Looks very sexy!
