Car to fit 3 kids seats in the back

Can anyone recommend a large car that can comfortably fit a booster seat, stage 2 car seat and a baby seat all in the back seat?

I hate people carriers so want to avoid this option

the focus cmax isn't big enough for three child seats! my mum has one and we tried it out as need to get a new car as our normal focus won't be big enough when the next one arrives, and we couldn't fit three seats comfortably in the back! would be ok i suppose with three 9-4yr car seat as don't need to ge tto the sides to do the seat belt up once they are fitted, but if you have a booster then almost impossible to get your hands down the side to buckle them up.

my freind has a zafira that fits three seat on the back, using it as anestate car rather than a 7 seater, although personally i don't like the styling of it., actually surprised myself when looking at new cars, by rather taking a fancy to the ford galaxy, it is a people carrier, but id very roomy and quite luxourious inside.

Liek Yorkiegirl we have a Citroen Picasso with 2x Britax Kids and a Britx Club Class.
Nissan Tino or Renault Megane were our other options (if not going down the 7-seater route).
It's surprisingly pleasant to drive, you sit high up and it's easy to spot in the car park!

ohFennelyeHerbful · 20/12/2005 11:34

noone ever believes me but we fit 3 in the back of our Astra quite easily. as long as you don't choose the "baby executive in leather with big arm rests" type seats.

we also have a Renault Espace which fits loads of seats in but that's an MPV which you don't want.

Enideepmidwinter · 20/12/2005 11:34

thats helpful to know about the C Max

I also like the Ford galaxy (but expensive). The VW Sharan is good too but definitely a people carrier.

dh wants to get a BMW estate but I have it on reliable authority that the 3 series cannot fit 3 car seats in the back, bummer

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 20/12/2005 11:35

You can fit 3 seats in the back of a Renault Laguna provided you don't need to access the seatbelt sockets

Bozza · 20/12/2005 11:35

The way to do it with a booster seat is to drag the child and seat over towards the door fasten the belt and then push child and seat back. Thats what I have to do with DS and his seat in Dh's Volvo because it fits over where the belt fastens. He has a bog standard Graco high back booster and this is in a Volvo S40.

Bozza · 20/12/2005 11:36

And that is even if DS is the only child/seat in the back of the car.

Hi, can I ask, out of interest does anyone know if any of these cars will take 3x ISOFiX seats?

Bagpussinboots · 20/12/2005 13:09

I think you have to order Isofix on a C-Max (which definitely fits 3 seats by the way - at least ours has for the last five months ). Isofix is only available on the outer two seat IIRC.

Enid/Lockets - We have two C-Max's and 3 children so anything you need to ask fire away - they really are very good cars .

Glitterygook · 20/12/2005 13:14

Not read other posts but my mondeo fits all 3 in. Now it's got in it 2 of the forward facing stage 2 seats (Britax Eclipse) and a high backed booster (Britax HIghliner). Before that, it had the two Eclipses and a rock-a-tot.

MistyEyed · 20/12/2005 13:43

Does a C Max have any extra seats in the boot?

LIZS · 20/12/2005 14:00

Megane estate/Scenic can take 3 seats across , has isofix on outer two and now you can get one with 2 extra seats on the Grand Scenic. Think it very unusual to get all 3 across the back with Isofix but front passenger one sometimes has it - only an option if you can disable the airbags though .

vickiyumyum · 20/12/2005 14:34

the c max is only a 5 seater car. my mum has a 53 reg one, and we found it difficult to fit the three seats in if you wanted access to the buckles to strap them in, but in theory three child seats fit in! the seats we tried, were a britax eclipse, britax baby car seat (sorry can't remeber the name) and a graco high back booster.

i may be biased as after having borrowed my mums car a couple of times, e.g to pick up the christmas tree, i decided i hate it, too plasticky, gimmicky and this is the ghia version and not a bog standard one. i don't like the silly little triangular winodws at the front either, with the posts that i felt obscured vision.

however whilst at the ford dealer as well as the galaxy which although greta i am still reluctant to buy as we will only ahve three kids and it seems excessive for day to day use, we also looked at the new 55 reg mondeo estates and they were very roomy, but again i thnk we will have the same problem with teh seats as with the cmax as the dealer said they were about the same width.

Bozza · 20/12/2005 14:36

You just have to do what I do, I think, although probably some potential for removing the skin from your knuckels from time to time. I know my friend used to have 3 seats in the back of an Astra.

IOTAnnenbaum · 20/12/2005 14:40

I can fit 2 x britax hiliner plus a booster in the back of my vw passat -- it is a bit of a faff to get the seat buckles done up though

QueensSpeechEagle · 20/12/2005 14:41

rofl @ bagpussinboots!!!

Sorry no help on cars - mine is a humungus Ford Tourneo which has eight seats and is built like a mini-bus - no good for you firefox!

ChristmascomesYEAHBUTonceayear · 20/12/2005 15:01

We've been looking for the exact same thing this weekend! Things that worked for 3 seats - Volvo V70, Volvo XC70 or XC90, Merc E Class, Lexus 300, Toyota Avensis estate. The "mini" MPVs like Toyota Avensis Verso and Vauxhall Zafira also fit 3 in comfortably but they don't sound to be the sort of thing you're looking for. Good luck. My top tip would be to give your dh a list of requirements, get him to do all the legwork and narrow it down to 3 or 4 for you to test drive. Saves you having to spend all your time at the weekend in horrible car showrooms!!
