I am looking at getting one of these for my son (4.5) as the next step from his like-a-bike. Does anyone have any experience of them? I am looking at the play bike for him.

Friends of mine have likeabike style Puky bikes for their kids. I think they're really happy with them.

I think they're a good brand.

Are you going to bother with trainer wheels? I keep figuring, if DS1 gets the hang of pedalling, on the Tagalong, and the hang of balancing, on his likeabike, then he can just go to a regular bike ...

yes we have a "puky" (arf!) for ds - not the style in the link though. they are really solidly built and seem to be good quality. somewhat heavy though. not an issue for ds pedalling, but a bit tough on me pushing, lifting etc.

We are going to go for the one with training wheels I think. I had hoped that his balance would be good enough from the likeabike, which it is, but ds is very defeatist with anything he can't do straight away and I am worried that I will put him off if he falls off with just two wheels. So will will start with the training wheels and go from there.

I am not sure if it matters if it is heavy? We live in central London and he will ride it from the flat to the park, etc. I have no plans to carry it at all. I don't carry his likabike ever. If he wants to ride it, he knows that he will either have to ride it or push it the whole way.

ds has the play bike and he adores it - I think it's funky too, lots of people ask where we bought it.

It is heavier than other children's bikes, but would buy one again as it's v sturdy.

Excellent! I am really pleased to hear that!
