my dh was looking for one and used a site called www.satnav2u.com. He says they were the best price. The make he rates is tomtom for the best quality and instructions.

I have Tom Tom for my smartphone/pocket pc and it's brilliant takes all the stress out of travelling to new places. \if you have a compatible phone you can buy a copy of the software on ebay for a few quid and a gps receiver for about £40

Have just bought Navman 520. (supposedly for DH but I've been using it more). It is about the same size as an iPod, very easy to set up a joy to use. It also has a 'back on track' feature that plots another route if you miss a turning.

GingerBearingGifts · 17/12/2005 18:23

Oh, and Richard Hammond off Top Gear uses Navman too.

Phone is a qtek 2020i(same as \mdaIII) tom tom software is the same as the 7 series models. I got it with all of the points of interest (canmeras etc) trafic updates et al.
A lot of top end smart phones will run sat nav of one variety or another

Mine is inside the dashboard and the screen comes up when you want to access it + it doubles up as a TV and is DEFFO BRILL

Anyway I just wanted to warn you what I saw on the news last week that portable sat nav systems were the cause of the rise in car break ins esp in london

When you leave the car parked take out the cradle they sit in and all the relevent wires etc to keep your car safe

They also said that the police were expecting the rise to go even higher when everyone uses their christmas pressies in their cars

Please be careful guys
