What curtain fabrics can I use with blackout linings?

I wanted velvet but John Lewis won't add blackout linings - they say it makes it hang wrong or something.

What about a heavy woven fabric? Or faux suede?

I'll ring JL but would be interested to know what others have done.

The blackout lining is quite heavy, but it may also show through on some fabrics. I have blackout in all rooms, as it also acts as a thermal layer to stop heat loss. My curtains are mainly cotton. It does affect the fall of my curtains in the lounge, big window, they often look bulky when open, so use tie backs, often have to arrange the folds.

I just hook on blackout linings to ordinary curtains - I use ones with less width so they aren't very pleated as they are a bit bulky otherwise

we have black-out roller blinds - from tesco online - come in a lot of different colours to match room - then just buy any curtains you like
