I was going to put in a bid for this but I'm surprised it has gone this high.

What do you think? It needs a fair bit of work.

It's lovely and it could be restored beautifully, but I agree, the price seems steep with so much work to do!

morningpaper · 07/12/2005 20:38

Way too much! It's rubbish at the mo! Try a local second hand shop, you'll get something much cheaper...

SecondhandRose · 07/12/2005 20:38

They're all getting carried away cos it's in Chelsea and definitely shabby chic!

Mincepiedermama · 07/12/2005 20:41

You're probably right.
I think, increasingly, ebay is a sellers' market. The other day someone was bidding £47 for some Sylvanian Families stuff which clearly stated in the description, 'This would cost £40 new in the shops'. And there was £8 to pay on top. Crazy!

Also I reclon 10 around it would be a bit of a squash! 8 max.

I wouldn't pay £200 for it.

expatinscotland · 07/12/2005 21:09

I saw similar in Bernardo's with 6 chairs for £100.

I don't buy on Ebay for that exact reason - only sell.

MarsyChristmas · 07/12/2005 21:20

Does it have to be Victorian? IKEA do a lovely large table that seats 14 when extended for about £130.

MerlinsBeard · 07/12/2005 21:37

is that really victorian or just a really old pine table? can u not get a cheap table and bash it a bit a la changing rooms to make it look old?

MistleToo · 07/12/2005 22:00

I wouldn't pay that amount!

Mincepiedermama · 07/12/2005 22:02

Damn! I really wanted it. I had already bought it in my head then the bids went crazy.
You're right though, it's not worth the money.
I thought it would go for much less because it needs work. My usual ploy is to find gorgeous stuff which I can only afford because it needs loads of work.

OOooooo think I will go for those, thank alibubbles they are lovely. Will the small size be big enough you think?

Mincepiedermama · 07/12/2005 23:10

Right, this auction finishes in an hour or so and I have to go to bed now. I really like the table. It's the right size. It would look good in the room. Perhaps just one sneaky little bid since dh isn't around to stop me.

Talk me down please. Look at the state of it. It can't be worth the money ... is it?

expatinscotland · 07/12/2005 23:14

Don't do it, spider!

It ain't worth it.

Imagine how you're going to feel when a table in better nick turns up in a charity shop nearest your house for half the price . . .

Mincepiedermama · 07/12/2005 23:17

You're so right expat. Thanks. It was the wine talking.
