Where can I get the cheapest copy? When my computer crashed about 6 months ago I bought one from the local paper and it works but does not allow me to update so it must be dodgy. My sister has bought ds an i pod nano for xmas and I need the proper windows to be able to use it (nightmare!)

I'd suggest buying a copy of Windows XP tbh. Windows 2000 was a derivative / enhancement of Windows NT, and the driver model, and general architecture, whilst good at the time, is slowly becoming more obsolete.

Running Windows XP means you will be able to easily download the latest programs and drivers, for the latest hardware without any hassle.

As alway, I need to say that if you want the absolute least amount of computer-related grief, buy a Mac.

OK. Much better than Windows 2000 (which is in your subject title, LOL). There are educational prices available for Windows XP, which might make it more affordable. A large number of users borrow other users' copies.

A Macmini starts at £359, which includes the operating system (you add keyboard, screen, mouse). Ain't too bad when compared with cost of a new copy of Windows !
