MS Works (or does that use Word?)

Star Office word processor. You can get it for free, from Sun Microsystems.

Also, Latex is still used a fair bit for scientific stuff. It is specialised, and is higher spec than a normal word processor.

You can also buy the editing form of Adobe Acrobat, and create documents in it, so I assume it has wp like functions.

There are also the other two MS products that are bundled with Office, Notepad and Wordpad.
