Kindle text to speech - make it stop!

OK - how do I get this damned woman to SHUT UP?!!!
I accidentally managed to turn on the text to speech function last night. I can press the Aa button and get to "turn off" which I do, and then she doesn't read out the book but she still tells me ever so helpful things like "SCREENSAVER".

I have turned the volume down as a last resort. But how do I make her go away?!!

On the plus side I have managed to e mail a couple of PDFs , so I am not being a complete Kindle dimwit.

To turn it off it's the button to adjust text size, to the right of the space bar. A big A and a little a, like Aa, you should then use the cursor to turn it off.
