I just wanted peoples thoughts on walkers as i've read they can decrease the speed of your baby walking rather then help.

So would you buy one or not?

No but more because of the danger (reaching beyond eye level, trip hazards, crush injuries etc) than development. Some countries have banned their sale, they take up a lot of room and are useful for a very short period (once they can walk not recommended).
