Tesco wooden magnetic trainsets

Does anyone know if Tesco are doing these again this year? I remember some mnetters saying they are as good as brio and a much better price, but that they're only available at Christmas. TIA.

Think I saw them in store last week.

They're available all year round in my branch of Tesco, TinyGang.

And mine. And they're compatible with brio, and the ones from ELC.

Oh hooray! Must get out more. I hope ds isn't too old for one now - he's just 4. We got him a trainset last year but tbh it's a pia to put together and so he rarely plays with it.

they do have them all year. DS has a few of these and loves them. Much cheaper than brio but good quality..think santa may get some to go in his stocking..lol

tinygang my ds1 still plays with the train track and he is 6.5.
What a great toy it is. Recommend ELC own brand as well.

also try Woolies (Chad Valley) - also compatible and on 3 for 2 at the moment plus 10% off everything in Woolies today and tomorrow!

My Tescos has a huge range, a full end. They have big sets as well as individual pieces like bridges and turntables, people and packs of straights and curves.

also have a look on ebay - people are often selling 'extras' on there for it.

i started a thread on this a few weeks ago. fantastic range. i just bought loads of this for ds. great set.

collette - i've got the ikea stuff but beware, the tracks fit a little wonky. they are too loose on one end and too tight on the other so little 2 yr old fingers can't put them together.

Tesco do track all year round i think. I have bought trains etc. Ours is a mixture. main bit bought in BHS sale rest added to wherever I see it at a good price.

I happen to be going to Ikea tomorrow DC - do you think the Tesco one is a better bet then? I don't want to get another one that ds (or me)can't put together.

Tesco seems more compatible with the other bits. Have a friend who ditched their Ikea one because of it.

no don't buy Ikea track, the little plastic bits are fiddly and it doesn't fit very well with other brands.
Tesco, ELC, Asda is fine (tho Asda stuff has little pegs which can come lose)

IMO Tesco is by far the best of the cheaper ranges. Asda's one okay but a little poorer in the fitting together of track pieces, generally a little rougher round the edges.

tesco set is brilliant. dd2 set is 2 years old and is still used most weeks. tho we are laods of track down, it gets everywhere. must buy more lol.
