Walkers - ear protection against the wind

I like country walks, and will shortly be holidaying in Scotland, but my ears are susceptible to the wind - if it's windy they hurt.

What is good to wear / use for ear protection against the wind when walking? What do you use?

I have a hat (trapper style) which is too warm much of the time. I'm thinking maybe some kind of headband. Not a hat, and not earplugs (don't want to restrict sound)

How about one of those Buff thingies? Are they any good worn over the ears for wind protection?

Suggestions please! Thanks in advance

Was going to suggest a Buff before I got to the end of the message.

I love my Buff - you can wear it as a hat if it is really cold or just over the ears for protection on a windy day.

Mine is a lovely cashmere one so it is warm but thin.

I must add that DH thinks I look like an idiot in mine but I don't care

Oh, a cashmere buff, like it! Grin
