if you had up to £50 to spend on your ds, what would you buy?

DS1's 5th birthday is coming up soon - ideas so far (following a visit to Toys R Us with him) are an Imaginext Batman cave which looked cool (even if I do say so myself Wink) and Toy Story 3 scalectrix. Both were around the £30-£40 mark.

big sandpit

I have an almost 5 year old DS, and he has quite a few Imaginext toys. They are really well put together and thought out. He also has a scalectrix, which he rarely touches. I'd go for the Imaginext.

Ds loves his lego and playmobil. He has pirate ship, police station, recycling truck, zoo and vets set. He plays with them all together, the pirates often raid the zoo or take their parrot to the vet!

yup, lego and playmobil over here too!

Playmobil.

If you don't already have: garage or play kitchen. We are still getting massive use out of ours (DS age 5 3/4)

frazzled74 · 24/05/2011 21:53

which playmobil? and would it be better than imaginext spaceship?

Ds has the imaginext spaceship too and it has already been relegated to my mums house (ds is 5 too). It is a good toy but it doesn't hold his attention for the length of time playmobil does.

I don't think you can go far wrong with which sets as all good. Ds like the pirates and animal ones but I'd just follow the interests of your ds. The more tiny pieces it has the more my ds seems to like it! He particular likes the figures and animals.

DS at 5 (now6) loved Lego. The big police station set is fab but parental help needed at first. Never went near the Playmobil despite having animals etc.

This Cranium toy is fab for imaginative play. Kids of a wide range of ages seem to love it & it's something they all play with together. Ours has been made into ship, castle, den, boat, bike & 'shared underpants' !?!
