I'm going mad, DD2 arrival is t - less than 9 weeks away. DD will be 18 months old so need a dreaded double buggy. Had almost convinced myself that an e3 was the way to go but having seen one in the flesh yesterday now I'm not so sure. I think it's the position of the second seat, looks very low as if second baby would be a second class citizen (I know I'm going pregnancy mad). Like the idea of the lie flat for 6 months bit though but not sure about the second seat.

Don't like tandems (first babe looks very far away and they look really bulky to push), not sure about side-by-sides either.

Whatever pram will have to be lugged in and out of a Clio boot prectically every day as well.

Oh I wish someone else would decide for me and buy me one?

I had a maclaren side by side umbrella folding double buggy- It was light and folded down really small. The seats layed flat for the baby and plenty of space for my 13 month old.

Oooh dd2 loves sitting in the 'second class' seat, she's all snuggly whilst poor dd1 gets all the cold wind blowing in her face. Seriously it's a dream to steer too (just remember to inflate the tyres when you first get the e3 (if you do decide on it)). And the reaction one gets when people realise that there's a little baby snuggled up in the back is classic. Although I did get a nasty witch tell me that my buggy was dangerous as it would clearly tip over...e3 was standing on it's own at the time as I was busy doing stuff, and the buggy was clearly not tipping over.

thanks fuzzy and bsg

I do like the e3 and was thinking that DD2 could go in the front eventually and DD1 would be hopping in and out knowing her.

lol @ the old witch story as well, theres always one!

I have a toddler seat on a pram at the moment and a Maclaren side by side for in the car. I would have loved the E3 though given the chance but couldn't justify another buggy. I have seen two where I live and think they are a great idea and will be used for much longer than a standard double.

Have you looked at the Jane powertrack tandem 23 wheeled buggy?

if you really dont like the e3 (and i LOVE it) this may do the trick as its almost like a single pram, but both kids are the smae height!

i have just got a zooper with a detachable toddler seat. I LOVE IT.

I am with you guys on this, the e3 is FANTASTIC!! I love mine so much I bought 2 for me (one for car and one for walking to school 3 times a day)!!! and then my parents bought one too!!!! I have a 13 month age gap and the only SUITABLE options I had were the e3 and the double mountain buggy with carrycot as DS3 wouldn't be able to reach DS4 as the carrycot was high up. (not a good option for the car though, it weighs a ton)!!

I have used the e3 with DS3 (now 16 months) in the top and DS4 (now 12 weeks) in the bottom in cocoon and have also used it with DS2 (now 4 last week) in the top and DS3 in the bottom and he LOVED it!! He thought it was great being underneath and grinned the whole time (I think he prefers that to being on top but he has to go on top when newborn is in there).

Bottom line is, I have tried nearly EVERY double on the market past and present and the e3 is by far the best for a close age gap. I found that with a side by side the toddler grabs the baby in the face (normally not in a nasty way but more of a "I can actually get to you now so I will" kind of way). The tandems are too hard to push and the toddler hates being at the back as there is novelty to it like there is with the e3.

Good luck with the search and I hope you get what you want, and in the meantime, if you need any advise let me know

geogteach · 12/11/2005 15:21

Another vote for e3 here, I have a 16 month gap and have been using it for the 13 months since ds2 was born, no problems. Both kids will sit in the back no problem, I can push with one hand and still hold onto DS1 and the looks I got pushing it round Madrid a couple of weeks ago were priceless!

fairydust · 12/11/2005 15:26

sil has an E3 and her biggest pet hate on it is that once baby is 6mnoths old it's can't lie down to sleep - she's considering a mamas and papas double aria.

sweetkitty · 12/11/2005 16:09

Thanks again, will have another look at the e3, didn't think about baby not being able to lie flat but with DD we hardly ever have her lying flat when she dozes off (even though I have a XT which can go flat)!

Had thought about a M&P twin aria too but thought it would be a bit bulky for my Clio boot.

Maybe I should think about both an e3 and a twin aria (think DP would up and leave though)!

ive got a twin aria and its FAB... fold up really small actually - even i was amazed! i dont think you would have any trouble fitting it in the boot.

it is very light and perfect for the short time u will use it. Jess loves being able to sit next to her baby sister and stays in it a lot longer than she will stay in her single buggy!

sweetkitty · 12/11/2005 16:50

Was wondering how you were getting on with your twin aria JARM as Jess and Abbie are near enough the same age ?

How are you finding pushing it around shops etc?

JessicaandRebeccasmummy · 13/11/2005 10:36

its fine hun... absolutely love it - it is SO light, and really easy to steer. So pleased i went with this one in the end, other than the fact i couldnt afford an E3 even if i wanted one, it really is the best side by side ive come accros.

Just waiting for Jess to walk EVERYWHERE so i can talk DH into getting me a Quinny Zapp!
