Been wondering what to get my grandparents for christmas, as well as a present for my dad from the girls, and have come accross a website where i can make a calander with 13 pics of my choice for £14.99 each.

Thought i could send one up to the grandparents and give one to my dad as christmas presents, but is it a bit naff????

HONEST OPINIONS!

Yes it is definitely naff and as such a very suitable prezzie for grandparents. They will LOVE it!

I did this sort of thing for my Grandad last year. He is 93 - what the hell am I supposed to do? Actually I bought a calendar in M&S for £6 and added photos of the kids in. I put a bit of effort in. So for instance in October when it is his birthday I had a picture of him with the kids at his birthday meal the year before. Put the kids in the garden for the summer months. In May I put a picture of him holding DD who was a few hours old. That sort of thing.

My sister has bagged the idea for this year though.

Think it's lovely. Could be a bit naff if you insisted on sending it to 20 million people who barely know you and your family, but seeing as it's close relatives - really touching idea, especially for grandparents. Everyone loves piccies of the kids - you could always mix in some pictures of you when you were younger, or even them when you were a child, and make it into a family calendar.

I saw this in one of the sunday papers and thought it was a lovely idea - what's the website?

Bozza · 10/11/2005 15:53

Oh he's also diabetic and has got about 10 bottles of whisky lined up in the cellar and a drawerful of unopened shirts.

I agree, totally naff, they'll love it!

Bozza, that sounds lovely.

Perfect idea for my in-laws who insist on no presents this year - what do you want when you're 80 except a bit of piece and quiet and wee dram?!

I can get them that from my two. MIL will love it.

dropinthe · 10/11/2005 16:22

Ditto-link if possible?

bran · 10/11/2005 16:25

I've just ordered this for my parents, it arrived this morning and it's very nice indeed. I've also done a mug with ds' picture for my MIL. I do think it's only acceptable while your kids are small and cute though, once they are grouchy, spotty teenagers you should probably stop.

bran · 10/11/2005 16:26

Here is a link in case anyone wants it.

If you've got a digital camera and a 1/2 decent printer you can do it yourself - I do one every year for granpdarents - customise the cover with the kids hand / footprints etc. Mind you - when I think about the cost of photo paper and ink - your way's probably cheaper!

jane313 · 10/11/2005 16:32

I did this last year and both sets of grandparents loved them. I wished we had done one for ourselves.

Shivs1974 · 10/11/2005 18:39

You've just reminded me that I need to go through photos & decide which ones will be on the calendar!

Not sure if you're aware but create a gift have linked in with Leukaemia Research to do the same thing - £13.99 for a wall calendar of which £3 is given to Leukaemia Research. try here

noddyholder · 10/11/2005 18:51

grandparents love naff so sounds perfect!

PeachyClair · 10/11/2005 19:16

Did this for my FIL, altho with carnival photos coz I am realistic about what he loves best. Bless him. I think he liked it though, at least it didnt go straight to the dog this time!

NotQuiteCockney · 10/11/2005 19:19

This is a great idea!

I don't like buying gifts for old people that aren't "disposable" IYSWIM - they have to be things that get used up, as old people always have too much stuff.

I might get this for my PIL this year, or maybe next year. (I think we're doing oxfam gifts this year, finally!)
