Need to get a bike helmet for my 3.5 year old DS. (Just got him a bike and he fell off it today - oops.) Absolutely no idea which kind to get. There's a good deal on a Riderz one on Amazon - are they ok? And how do I know what size I need - do I have to measure his head? Confused Thanks for helping.

You'd be better going to a bike shop and getting one fitted. They come with pads and stuff inside to fit it exactly.

Agree - you should go to a bike shop and get one fitted (a well fitting helmet saved my son's life so its worth it!).

Ok, thanks. I have been told. I'll go and try them out. (I should add, when he fell off his bike, it was only in the garden, not on the road - I read my post again and sounded really irresponsible!!!!).

no you didn't - helmets are just a subject close to my heart.

I bet they are! Trip to Halfords planned for the weekend.

I'd recommend going to a proper bike shop if there is one you can get to. IME halfords is mainly staffed with disgruntled teens who thought it would be like being on Top Gear. Bought my son's first helmet there and though it was okay, they didn't really have much to say about fitting etc. When I recently upgraded went to my local bike shop and not only did they have a lot more choice in the smaller sizes they really talked me through fitting it, showed me how to adjust it properly etc.
