which mattress for first bed?

Just been given an ikea bed and went onto the ikea website to look at mattresses. The choice is bamboozling. Do i go for spring or foam or spring and foam?

I always assumbed spring ?? They tend to be a little bit pricer, not sure if this is correct though ?
