Do I need a cover for my Kindle?

And if so, which one do you recommend?

Yes. I found it helps to keep the dust off, also small child fingers and also helps identify whose kindle is whose - took my uncovered kindle to someone else's house, they had two uncovered kindles. Trying to tell the 3 apart was a bit of fun!

I really like the one I have, it's the Amazon one with the Light. Expensive though. Consider if you would use a light, or not... then see what is available cover wise, within price range.

The Amazon one without the light is now back in stock (had been withdrawn for a while because the old version made the screen freeze). The Amazon covers are very good, but they are expensive. I haven't tried any others but there are loads on the market at all prices.

Thanks very much. Had a look at the Amazon ones and was a bit Shock at the price. Will have a look at some others.

I got a neoprene (think that's right) stretchy cover that goes over the back and leaves a window for the screen and keyboard - this just makes it a bit less slippy and I don't worry so much about sticky fingers (kids, not mine). And it's a nice red! This was only a few pounds on ebay.

But for when I take it out (and also to keep the dust off the screen when not in use) I've just ordered a fabric pouch. Loads of people have started making them and selling online. I really should have made my own but hey. I liked the fabric and it's padded with some kind of wadding. It'll stop the screen getting scratched in my bag. I had a look at the leather case things but couldn't put that on on over the neoprene case, and because it stretches on very snugly you can't take it on and off every 5 minutes.

Combined cost of both cases was still much less than an amazon case.

If you need to read in bed without disturbing anyone else, the lighted cover is worth the money. It is pricey but really well-designed, the light runs off the kindle battery.

Thanks for both of those posts. I do read in bed but usually leave my light on as it doesn't seem to disturb DHs sleep. In fact he is working so hard and sleeping so much at the moment I think I could practise circus skills in the bed and he wouldn't notice [bungrin]

The pouchs sound good, will have a look at those too.

You do need some sort of cover just to prevent damage and dust. If your budget doesn't stretch too far try a neoprene slip case.

I bought the wifi only kindle and with the money I saved by not buying the 3G one I bought the amazon cover with light.
