Hi all,
We've been asked by Angels and Urchins magazine to suggest the most iconic parenting items - things that have arrived on the scene during the last ten years that are truly fabulous or you can't now imagine parenting without. So, great design, practicality, beauty.

Your thoughts would be most helpful.

baby jogger city mini - a buggy i can fold/unfold has got to be iconic

scottishmummy · 25/04/2011 21:38

of course cbeebies is distraction thats the point
its not big,its not clever...but it buys bit of time to shower/have pee on own,you know likes luxuries instead of having a squad of weans follow me everywhere

so for the distraction alone, cbeebies i love it

ChocolateEggyrolls · 25/04/2011 21:40

Aren't mothers expected to do more these days - I don't think Cbeebies is lazy, I think it helps out educationally and quite frankly if you can't afford nursery/cm/ etc gives a good opportunity to "meet" different people from different backgrounds etc that they might never meet in your social life. I think it has made diversity much much more acceptable and seen as mainstream, if that isn't iconic I don't know what is. But then I am just a lazy working mother so what would I know?

fizzylaces · 25/04/2011 22:09

Sophie the Giraffe
Compressed hours
Sheepskin buggy liner
Babasling
Littlelife backpack
Have 10 yrs between mine and these are the things I have noticed - as for the telly, more choice=more shite...!

There is a big difference between being iconic and being truly fabulous and something I wouldn't want to parent without.

I wouldn't want to parent a newborn without a woombie (which I don't think has been mentioned yet) now that I've discovered them, and they are new within the last 10 years, but I certainly wouldn't call them iconic.

Similarly, I wouldn't want to parent a newborn without a close baby carrier, but again it's not something I'd call iconic.

The bumbo prob falls into this category (although I used ours for prob a total of less than one hour with dc3), but I don't think anything else does.

And then there's the question of what age of child they are interested in parenting. For an older child I'd agree with the poster who mentions the micro mini scooters as being iconic.

I think you need to clarify a bit exactly what it is they want to know Justine.

Jumperoo

scottishmummy · 25/04/2011 22:53

but to an extent it is subjective.bugaboo for me ticks all boxes and is imo iconic. however plenty people hate bugaboo (as mn posts attest)

some also take a product and make it a socio-political parenting stsement too

i mean the cloth bummed and baby wearers crew,i may add these are their titles not mine.having had the misfortune to met such braggers i was left thinking but its only a sling, only a nappy.

no one product is definitive or essential.nothing replaces love and regard

it has been v interesting reading many here i agree with, many i think why?

SpeedyGonzalez · 26/04/2011 00:49

Bollocks, scotmum. If you give your kids enough material possessions you'll never need to expend unnecessary energy actually loving them. Tsk.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2011 07:33

Well, this is what I said upthread. There is a difference between useful and great and iconic.

What does HQ want? Iconic products, or stuff that made your life easier. Bugaboo IS an iconic parenting product. Sheepskin buggy liners are useful.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/04/2011 09:29

Stokke Tripp Trapp chair - iconic, timeless and practical design, and a quality piece of furniture.
Gro-bags - (and I mean gro-bags, not imitations) well made, good designs with a variety of poppers, zips and togs.

JemimaMop · 26/04/2011 10:20

Not sure when they were launched, but the buggy board made my life so much easier. I had 20 months between my 1st and 2nd and 20 months between my 2nd and 3rd and mine was a godsend once the baby was too big for a sling. I hated taking a double buggy out. I bought mine 7 years ago, not sure whether they were launched more than 10 years ago?

Am amazed that CBeebies is only 9 years old TBH, I remember it when my eldest (nearly 9) was small and assumed it had been around for ages. Not sure that I would describe it as "iconic" though.

fizzylaces · 26/04/2011 23:59

Hmmm. I didn't really pay attention to the op

Mine is Sophie the giraffe and ignore my other suggestions - they are merely helpful developments of the last 10 years Smile!

Sophie is so easy to hold, very sweet and all babies love her.

fizzylaces · 26/04/2011 23:59

*all babies I know
