What do you think are the most iconic parenting products of the last 10 years?

Hi all,
We've been asked by Angels and Urchins magazine to suggest the most iconic parenting items - things that have arrived on the scene during the last ten years that are truly fabulous or you can't now imagine parenting without. So, great design, practicality, beauty.

Your thoughts would be most helpful.

Definitely the better designs of car seats eg the ones that swivel round to let you put the child in easily (not that we have a car, but I can see the benefit from other people).

Definitely the phil&teds.

Definitely the rise of the internet eg more kids websites, plus the ability to teach them & explain easily by finding appropriate websites.

Definitely mumsnet!

Lots of baby things, regardless of whether they fall into the 10yr time slot, seemed invaluable. But we quickly forget, and also the more children you have, the less 'things' you tend to need eg bottle warmers, micro sterilizers, all that gadgetry. So its hard to tell which is the realistic view! I do think that the old things are often the best - -timeless classics - and you dont need most of the stuff on the market.

ExpatAgain · 22/04/2011 09:15

3-wheeler buggies in whatever brand
baby bottom butter!
mumsnet
cbeebies

bubbleandsqueaks · 22/04/2011 09:27

Wow - dd1 is 3 and dd2 is 5months - I have survived in ignorance without any of these.

MN - Would a very different parent if I hadn't discovered MN when dd was a few months old.

notcitrus · 22/04/2011 09:52

Mini micro scooters - for getting your too-old-for-pushchair child anywhere

Maclaren XT pushchair - thousands everywhere.

The Phil+Teds double-decker pushchair

Grobags - it's become a generic noun

Calpol - don't know if it was around more than 10 years ago but wasn't when I was a child. Having a toddler who actually wants 'pink medicine' when poorly is hugely helpful!

jasper1980 · 22/04/2011 10:28

Stokke pushchair...the height, baby facing you etc.
Balance bikes
Micro scooter
Weenotions nappies

Loshad · 22/04/2011 10:29

most of these things are well over 10 years old though - my oldest is 17, and my youngest 10 - i used shaped nappies on three of my dss, trip traps were around all the time, as were slings, breast pads, lansinoh nipple cream, hooded towels, antilops, doidy cups - even the x box and nintendo ds are just updates of eafrlier versions

LynetteScavo · 22/04/2011 10:41

I agree, Loshad. I used almost everything mentioned with my 12 yo when he was little.

Although, back then pushchairs were something you used to push you baby around in, not something to make a statement.

So, I think that leaves Cbeebies, Bumbos and Phil & Teds. (Way better than Bugaboo as it's for 2 DC. Grin) and trunkis.

Bike/scooter helmets were around but nobody actually used them.

Twit · 22/04/2011 10:50

Hot Milk bras.

Twit · 22/04/2011 10:52

And definately agree about Mumsnet. Wink

donkeybotherer · 22/04/2011 11:05

Same as same as: grobags, milk in cartons, Cbeebies, travel systems & bugaboos, antilop highchair. Also

The MPV

Parenting websites...I still get emails about my 84mnth old!

Child-friendfly restaurants, ok technically not a parenting 'item', but much easier to eat out with children than of yesteryear

Parietal · 22/04/2011 11:53

A very recent thing, but my iPad is essential for parenting - keeps me sane when breastfeeding and keeps toddler amused in the car.

BikeRunSki · 22/04/2011 13:06

Balance Bikes
Ikea Antilop high chair
P&T tandem pushchairs
Tommy Tippee first sippy cups.
Doidy cup
Clip in/out isofix infant car seats

My mum had a sleeping bag for my brother 45years ago! It was called an "Angel's nest" and was knitted, but essentially the same thing.

tigermummy35 · 22/04/2011 13:38

Morrck Baby Hoodie (those amazing blankets that fit in the car seat or buggy)

Gro Bags

Shaped washable nappies

Nappy wraps

Low-liner buses, so you can wheel the buggy straight on and off, no folding!

MerryMarigold · 22/04/2011 15:14

Antilop highchair
Ella's kitchen for its weird and wonderful recipes
Aquadraw
Little life rucksacks
Agree with Peppa Pig and Cbeebies!

EmLH · 22/04/2011 16:06

Aquadoodle/aquadraw
Those little food nets on a plastic dummy-like base - great for safe weaning.
Eco friendly/chemical free wipes & toiletries -we like earth friendly baby.
Organic pouches of food - lifesavers when you're out.
Baby yoghurts with no added sugar

nethunsreject · 22/04/2011 16:23

Baby sleeping bags.

Status symbol type pushchairs.

CBeebies.

RainbowPatooties · 22/04/2011 17:53

Already been said, but I also vote Bumbo, CBeebies and sleeping bags

candleshoe · 22/04/2011 18:41

When I had my DTSs in 2002 you couldn't buy baby wheat free pasta, low salt stock/gravy, baby pasta sauces etc. only jars of ready prepared babyfood and when I had DD in 2005 you could buy all that 'cook it at home' type of stuff and it made a hell of a difference to how we fed her. She had all the same food as us right from the off because it was so easy to modify it for her.

LuckyWeKeptTheCot · 22/04/2011 18:53

PEppa Pig has most definitely become a product. A very successful one!

BikeRunSki · 22/04/2011 18:55

That really cheap rainbow coloured plastic cutlery and crockery from Ikea. It is everywhere and very useful.

LuckyWeKeptTheCot · 22/04/2011 18:56

Sunsuits

prolificwillybreeder · 22/04/2011 18:59

All have been said really but I vote for:
Bumbo
In line buggy
CBeebies
Low floor buses
Gro bags
Supermarkets selling baby clothes- really convenient
Organic pouches of food
Sugar free baby yogurt

gilmoregirl · 22/04/2011 19:34

Mini micro scooters should definitely go on the list - wish I'd designed it!

Honeydragon · 22/04/2011 19:53

BUGABOO BEE -took everything good from the pushchairs of the 70's/80's, Silvercross, Aprica etc and made something truly clever and user friendly.

CBeebies

Coloured Suncream.

tassisssss · 22/04/2011 19:54

some of my favourites:
grobags
totsbots
baby bjorn
bumbo
snacktrap
mini micro scooter (think this would be my number one)
cbeebies
big trampolines
