Help me avoid social suicide - which brand of tea should I buy?

I don't drink tea, so can't judge which are decent/not - which brand(s) should I have in the house for when tea-drinkers pop over (I wouldn't want to be the person known for her terrible tea)? + is there anything I need to know about any brands, is there a "News of the World" equivalent of the tea brands I need to avoid?

Another vote for Yorkshire Tea (for hard water) with the milk in last.

Can't believe this thread! Brand of tea? Social suicide? What sort of circles do you lot mix in?!

Do people really judge themselves and others on brands of tea?

Do what I do, decant them into lovely glass jars and put the box in the bin. Apparently Yorkshire tastes best

LadySherlock, sadly it is just my eponymous tearoom that is in Harrogate. Whenever there though I stock up with a vast supply of Fat Rascals and Yorkshire Curd Tart. Luckily Waitrose supplies Yorkshire Tea and Tea Bread

Ulysees · 04/11/2005 10:51

Hd my lovely Fairtrade tea this morning

mogwai · 04/11/2005 10:54

NomDePlume · 04/11/2005 10:55

Ulysees · 04/11/2005 10:57

Ulysees · 04/11/2005 10:57

guilt free fairtrade with no slave farmers picking it

MunnziesDH · 05/11/2005 19:56

The best tea by far in my book is here

saadia · 05/11/2005 21:52

My favourite at the moment is Twinings Organic English Breakfast tea, but when I was in Egypt I used to drink Liptons with two teabags and no milk - I liked it really strong for some reason.

harpsichordcarrier · 05/11/2005 21:59

oh MrsFoga I bet you're glad you asked...
Yorkshire Gold is the creme de la creme
but anything else will do, frankly, in extremis
EXCEPT earl grey
which is FILTH and UNDRINKABLE
and to be perfectly honest I would rather you let me make it myself if I come round
OK?

bettythebuilder · 05/11/2005 22:49

Yorkshire tea by Taylors of Harrogate.

bettythebuilder · 05/11/2005 22:52

Althoough dh told me I made the worst tea he'd ever drunk.
As a non tea drinker, I didn't realise it was almost a religion to some people...

hatstand · 06/11/2005 00:05

If you really want to impress tea drinkers then teh most important thing is NO TEA BAGS. Use a tea pot, buy loose tea. Warm the pot. preferably use Assem

hatstand · 06/11/2005 00:07

blimey. just read the rest of the thread. Am I the only one into loose leaf? plebs. sorry had wine tonight

hatstand · 06/11/2005 00:08

JanH · 06/11/2005 00:10

hatstand · 06/11/2005 00:12

pleb

hunkermunker · 06/11/2005 00:12

Isn't there some grim process to decaffeination that you don't want to think about, or is that just coffee? Ferrets weeing on it or something. I might've made that up though.
