nothing should be themed or co-ordinated

xmas should be the only theme

some lovely stuff in basement of selfridges. i buy the girls one "posh" decoration each year and build up like that. the rest of ours are mostly twisty silver wire things, some of those glass baubles (lilac, silver, green black) - all from habitat, I think. and white lights. real tree, obviously

the nicest tree I've ever seen had real candles in clips - only lit on christmas eve - the smell and light is lovely, beats twinkly fairy lights hands down!
they had real glass antique baubles salvaged when the family fled from prussia during the war

really special tree - truly meaningful for the family

I can't decide this year to either go smart, tasteful and coordinated, or completely naff, over the top and magical. Same applies to front of the house, inflatable santas or smart lights in one colour only - oh the decisions. I love christmas

We have real tree with twinkling white lights, red bows and "various" decorations. I have some cast offs my Mum gave me when I first rented a flat, but some of these are very old glass ones that she inherited, a few that I bought at that time but since the kids were born I have gone in for wooden ones so that they can help decorate. I've got 2 or 3 sets of wooden ones and then I let the kids choose one each. Last year they chose ones from Accessorize although DS insisted on choosing a metal king.

stuff you like is always the best

we have a real mixture on our tree - plain white lights then a total mix of baubles, decorations (some tasteful some not) and things that are special to us.

Real tree, near open fire - always looks gorgeous whatever we chuck on it.
