mini firidges and mini coolers

My ds has saved up some money and wants to buy a mini cooler out of Argos for his room. It is only £12.99 and is on offer. He wants to keep drinks in it but I am not sure what is the difference between a mini fridge which is obviously more expensive and a cooler. Would a cooler keep drinks cold indefinitely or are they just for things like camping trips? Sorry to sound thick but any advise welcome. It is so rare for ds to actually save money so I don't want him to be disappointed.

Coolers have to have ice packs in them all te time to keep drinks cold, they are just insulated boxes.

Mini Fridges are much better IMO.

Ours will hold 6 cans.

You do get electric coolboxes that stay cool they are more for traveling and picnics. If it has a normal plug no reason why it can't be used in a room but often they have a car ciggarette plug. Quite often the capacity is not very big for either because the motor/cooler bit takes up so much room.

Mini fridge DH got for xmas last year was very very noisy when switched on. Definitely wouldn't want it in bedroom.

I got this set rom Argos. I use it the cooler to store breastmilk in work. It can be used in the car as well using the cigarette lighter. I find it great but the max time i use i for is 12 hours. Have never used the water dispenser or the ice-box though!
