Download the kindle application from Amazon. Versions for Windows, Mac, iPad, iPhone etc. I had a Kindle, now I don't but I still have all my books and buy more on my other gadgets :)

You can also buy books via the PC application and then if you do get a kindle, the books are then available on that.

Kindle for PC (Vista, Win7, XP)
